"Dad!" she shouted from the attic "Where's the thing that cuts things in half?"

"Do you mean the saw, honey? You know you can't be near them after the incident. Remember?"

"Dad, c'mon!" she cried, opening the door so she could be heard louder "That was nothing!"

"The stitches on two of your fingers don't speak as surely as you do now!"

"Stop exagerating, you make it a big deal"

"You know I'm not," her father appeared from downstairs with a plate with breakfast and a cup of tea on the other one. He stopped in the small indoor balcony that connected the stairs to the attic up in the only room the third floor had, and handed both things to his daughter, who had her hands slightly dirty from her morning warm up work "you literally almost lost two fingers."

"That's not what h-"

"Now c'mon, honey, you will be late to school. And for the record, you won't get a hand of sharp and cutting objects until you're fully recovered. You're lucky i'm letting you get in there."

"Thanks, dad" she said, almost automatically "It's almost done, I think I might try them today."

"Alright," her dad sighed, not completely happy with her dauhter's words "you know how I feel about this, but you got your mother's obstination."

She smiled and looked down to the floor, blushed by her father's compliments.

"Thank you, I guess?" she answered, looking back up "I told you I really want to make something good with this... thing I have."

"Condition," her dad pointed "it's called a condition."

"Right, condition." she followed "I think this time they're going to work."

"I'm still thinking about letting you go with those, but..."

"It's a great thing, dad, think about it. And remember, I have combat class and stretching after school so I won't get here until five."

"Okay, love, now have your breakfast before it gets cold."

"Thank you, dad" she said for the last time before closing the door and placing both things on the table next to her huge experiment. She took her cup and brought it to her lips while taking a look to the place. She was lucky her dad let her use the attic as her work place.

When her dad, her older brother and her moved from a small town in Manchester to a kind but old neighbourhood in New York she wasn't expecting much, and she still wasn't at all. Besides, all she always needed was herself and to be busy all day. Her condition always got her just a few friends, only the ones who understood it were kind enough to stick by her side. But now that she was in a whole different country, she had to learn to be all by herself, she didn't want to explain every single person she met what was wrong with her and see them practically flip a coin to see if she was worth the while or not.

She sighed and shook her head to focus once again on her big project. She had been working on it since she got to America, and after a whole productive year she was really close to the end, to trying it for the very first time. After all, she didn't spend nine years of her life training to be nothing.

"I'm going to live all my life with this. I better make something out of this, something that would actually help people" she remembered thinking when she was leaving like the twentieth doctor back then. After coming and goings she had decided, at the young age of eight, that she was going to take advantage of her unfortunate situation, and she begged her parents to sign her up for different classes by the year, most that now she was a complete expert: martial arts, boxing, karate, taekwondo, archery, gymnastics, and not to forget her remarkable speed and lung resistance. She was always available to any challenge and new sport, after all, she was not afraid of absolutely anything, at all.
