Ava sighed in slight annoyance. Of course when she starts her last year of school drama happens. She doesn't usually get mixed up with these things, but her friend, Jasmin, had been sucked up into it. Her locker shut louder than she would have liked, making her groan out loud. This day was just not her day at all! As she walked toward the cafeteria, she heard the talk about the new boy and the hushed whispers that she couldn't make out.

Safely she had gotten to the doors. Pushing them open she had caught sight of her friends and her boyfriend at their original spot. Ava gave a smile, dropping down on to her seat waiting for the talk that was about to happen. Jasmin sat in front of her, a girl with very tan skin and dark eyes surrounded by the mess of her dark brown curly hair. Kathryn sat next to Jasmin, her light brown hair tied into a high ponytail and her hazel eyes glued to her phone. Kevin sat next to her, his black hair a cute adorable mess, his brown eyes finding her own dark blue eyes.

"So," Jasmin hummed, tapping her fingers on the table, "I'm guessing you heard about the thing with Ms. Bitch and me?"

Ava nodded slowly, already knowing what was going to happen.

"I can't believe she thought I would ever hook up with Jason!" Jasmin hissed under her breath.

"Well, in freshman year you did have a major crush on him," Kevin mentioned.

"Yeah, but I was not going to do anything," Jasmin said, narrowing her eyes. "And thanks for making me remember that."

He raised his hands in defense, a playful smile on his face.

Jasmin, or Jamie as a nickname, was known to be a popular in Ava's friend group. She played volleyball and was even a cheerleader for a year. Kathryn, Kat, was quite the opposite, she didn't play sports but she was in the art club. Kevin was the athletic one in the group. He played football for all 7 years, in basketball because some of his other friends wanted him to, and did track for 2 years before he hurt his ankle. Ava wasn't athletic either. What she did was gardening club since she loved plants so much.

"So I heard she yelled at you yesterday," Ava said, fishing for her phone in her jacket looking at the time.

"Yes, she did. Or she tried. I walked away after a few words." Jamie rolled her eyes.

"How many times is she going to keep doing this?" Kat muttered, looking up from her phone. "This is the third time this week? It's only Wednesday."

"Who cares? Just keep ignoring her." Kevin shrugged. "You know for a fact Cassie won't do anything."

"That didn't really work well for us," Ava said, grabbing his hand. "The first year was hell when she found out Jamie had a crush on Jason."

"She's out to get me! She was dating Nate that time, wasn't she? Then suddenly she dumped him and a week later rumors came out that she and Jason were doing it in the back of the school." Jasmin huffed, taking a sip of her coffee.

"Maybe we should talk about something else," Kat suggested, "before she goes crazy."

"How about the new kid?" Kevin replied. "I think his name is Cory? Not sure. Aiden was talking about it earlier."

"I heard he's hot." Kathryn smirked looking at Jasmin. "Maybe you should talk to him."

Jasmin glared at Kat, giving a soft punch on her shoulder just when the bell rang. Both Ava and Kevin were laughing as all four of them walked out. They parted ways at the door since Ava didn't have them in her Home Room. She made a stop at her locker, digging in her bag for a pencil and a notebook. Quickly, she made her way to her class, sitting down alone and away from other students. She opened her notebook to a random page and started to just doodle. Ava wasn't really an 'artist', was never good at it, but it didn't stop her from just randomly drawing patterns.

The door opened and her Home Room teacher made her way to her desk. Ava was not expecting the tall guy after Ms. Bowie. He looked around catching Ava's eyes for a moment. His eyes were a blue that could pass off for a gray. He gave a smirk after he noticed that everyone was staring at him before following after the teacher to her desk.

To the side of her she can hear girls squealing. However she couldn't really argue with them. The guy was rather attractive, though she would never admit it out loud. He had nice short blonde hair that was tucked behind his ear.

"He is hot!" A girl whispered to another girl across the table.

"He is, but I heard that Cassie has dibs." Another girl said.

"Doesn't she have Jason?" The first girl hissed.

"Yes, but you know her. She's a whore." A guy joined in.

Ava zoned out of that conversation. She grabbed her pen, moving her black hair out of her face, and looked at her notebook. The scribble of lines continued until she thought of trying something new. Despite trying not to listen in to the people next to her, they seemed to talk a bit louder.

"Didn't-"

"Okay, everyone, be quiet!" Ms. Bowie interrupted. "This is Cory Matthews. He is new here, so I expect you to be nice. Now let's see if anyone is absent."

Ms. Bowie started to call out names and Cory seemed to sit at an empty table close to Ava. She didn't really care, but she could tell that this guy was trouble. Something seemed to warn her. She shook her head turning back to her mess of lines.

"Christopher Jones?"

"Here!"

"Derek Lias?"

"Present!"

"Rosa Montoya?"

"Here!"

"Ava Springs?"

"Here!" Ava raised her hand for a second.

It shocked her when she felt someone sit next to her. She looked up to see Cory giving her a smile. A questioning look crossed her face as she waited for an answer.

"I have no idea how to get to my classes and you're the only person who isn't looking at me weird." Cory explained.

His voice was deep, Ava could not help but notice.

"You want me to help you get around?" She said after a moment.

"That would be amazing!" Cory smiled wider.

So much for ignoring this guy...Ava thought.

"Alright. What class do you have next?" Ava asked turning her body to him.

He pulled out a paper and handed it to Ava. She looked over it. Surprise washed over her when she noticed that this guy happened to share the same classes as her.

"Uhm, yeah I can help you out," Ava smiled.

She silently cursed herself for being to nice. The paper was handed back with a small 'thank you' and she couldn't help notice how the room had gotten quiet.

Ava had never been happy to hear the bell ring for class.
