Getting Started - New to Japanese?

Most of the people recommend learning Hiragana first, starting with Katakana might be helpful for those about to travel to Japan since Katakana is found on signs everywhere, but for the most part, Hiragana is more useful.

The Good News!

Learning Hiragana isn't that hard!
If you study 15-30 minutes a day for 2 or 3 weeks you can learn all of the Hiragana, in fact, you can begin to read REAL Japanese the first day.

It will, however, take time to read a glob of Japanese text without instinctively groping for the aspirin. That comes with practice and....

Patience.
