Defiance

Prologue

               

The year is 3091, April 12. Of course at this time technology is at its peak. Advanced businesses are growing and the rich are prospering. As usual life is going good for those with power, for those with money,those who fit in, and for those who are born with a good life set out for them. Same old, same old right? Wrong. The date was August 15, 2438, humans...started to evolve again. The average IQ started to rise rapidly and newborns were starting to produce new traits such as obscure eye colors which have never appeared before. What was even more amazing was how much the average person’s  physical strength increased in general.

    Because of these peculiar outbreaks a lot of things have changed. Businesses centred around sports like entertainment were getting heaps of cash, for example: in basketball instead of having 9ft courts they gradually changed it to 18-19ft, imagine seeing someone jump that high! Amazing right! That’s how everyone felt. Residences changed as well as people began to buy and set up higher fences (ironic eh?). Renovations were made at every corner. Then something even more astonishing came to light. The human’s lifespan rose to 200 years of age. Most would think that’s a good thing right? Even something to celebrate over? But all that celebration ended in the year 3063 on February 1st. Many things hit a curve as certain religious groups and factions were “Proven Wrong” because of the human’s evolution (especially christianity). They were starting to lose funds while scientists were starting to shine, but this was not the, biggest problem.

During these times, all of earth’s supreme nations and governments are now formed together as one. With that said the world was filled with less wars and conflicts, however that didn’t stop the government from fucking over it’s people. They issued a new law that purposely cut off a lot of people’s health insurance. People thought that was just a small feet the government had to take. THEY WERE ALL WRONG. On October 22nd of the same year, the whole nation hit an immediate recession. Banks were no longer able to protect people’s money as many businesses began to foreclose and go bankrupt. This caused the poor to lose their homes and the middle class to become poor. But as bad as that sounds, it didn’t end there. During the year of 3077 when the words population drastically rose to a count of 26 billion, the government’s hands were forced to take measures...extreme measures. They issued a new law stating that anyone who wasn’t proven as an appropriate benefit to their community at the age of 60 was to forfeit their lives for the future generations.

A lot of people revolted against it, but because this law wasn’t directed at the rich the law was passed. A lot of families lost their homes because of this and many children became orphans. The only positive side to this is that the economy began to rise. Since their plan began to show major progress, the government decided to carry out and enforce this new law every two months. In the year of 3079, it was reported that over 1.9 billion people were killed and executed as well as another 300 million died in poverty. Government officials knew that wasn’t nearly enough to restore the world’s balance, so the government changed and made revisions to their previous law. In accordance with the help of several scientists, the posted law was stated on March 28, 3080. It  was simple, any children between the ages of ten through eighteen who have not proven themselves useful in society and their community in the accumulated amount of time were to be put to Death...The people thought “No way they’d be able to pass such a law.” Even I thought “No way.”

I stared at my sister who was 4 years older than me. She was twelve years old. I never knew my real parents as I was abandoned at birth. My father’s step brother and his wife adopted me. As I got older I grew to hate them. They were just selfish, only cared about themselves. Reason why they adopted me: to look good in front of the press. They themselves were part of the government’s senate. I’m guessing they figured adopting me would gain the people’s mercy and compassion which is why they’re always telling me not to embarrass them. But Miyu was different. She was the only one who took care of me. She even treated me as if i were her own child. Miyu was the only true family that i had left...And now I’m...Standing over her grave. No one thought about or saw it coming. Parents had to give up their children. Some fought for their kids but any retaliation in giving up your child was greeted with death.
