Halloween

Evelina- meaning life
Thanatos- meaning death

Modern day Halloween is known for children dressing up in costumes and going house to house asking for treats, or an excuse for teenagers and adults to dress skimpy and drink excessively.

Halloween originated from the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, where celts would dress up to ward of ghosts and light bonfires; it was believed that the night of the October 31st is when the veil between life and death was at its weakest, and where the dead were able to return as spirits.

Party stores were running low on costumes as Halloween was quickly approaching. Children were getting ready to go door to door in their neighbourhood asking "trick or treat?"; while teenagers were stocking up on alcohol and buying the skimpiest outfits they could find for Halloween house parties.

Decorations were going up all across town; there were jack-o-lanterns, spiders, spider webs, witches, and ghouls every where, on every corner and throughout every shop. All around were reminders of the upcoming holiday.

Evelina walked down her street and looked around at her neighbour's Halloween decorations. Evelina wasn't particularly interested in the day, sure she kept candy by her door for he children, but she'd never participated in the festivities. Evelina felt as though the celebrations had lost touch with the original meaning of the day; she felt as though the Day of the Dead was more appropriate for October 31st than modern day Halloween.

Evelina lived with her long time boyfriend, Thanatos. Evelina often questioned why parents would name their child after death, but Thanatos was the most charming man she'd ever met. Thanatos was tall and strikingly handsome, resembling an Aussie surfer; he was fit and muscular but not over the top, with beach blonde hair, tanned skin, and cerulean blue eyes that were always so bright and happy. Thanatos had very defined facial structures that made girls gawk in appreciation, when they weren't doing so over his physique. In contrast to the meaning to his name, Thanatos was quite a gentleman and very sweet, although had a very sexy dominant side in the bedroom.

Evelina arrived at her house, bare in comparison to the houses beside her's. The house was always spotless as Evelina was a clean freak. Thanatos was at work; Evelina never really understood what Thanatos did for a job, he'd tried explaining it to her on multiple occasions but she'd find herself getting bored and zoning out, but what she did know was that it involved people.

It was October 30th and Evelina knew that Thanatos would be working late the next night leaving her to see to the many trick or treaters; so she'd made a plan for him to arrive home too the next night. Her surprise was hidden deep in their wardrobe, sitting beneath a pile of clothes. Evelina was excitedly anticipating her surprise, she knew what was going to come from it and the anticipation made goosebumps erupt along her skin.

Thanatos looked down at the lifeless body at his feet. He could never be truthful to Evelina about his profession because he feared loosing his love, even though the prophecy predicted their union, she meant to mush to him for her to possibly leave. Evelina questioned his parents for their choice in his name, but in all truth he was death, and she was life. Death's job was to help souls move on to the afterlife, which is why he stood beside the lifeless Anthony Tooke.

Thanatos thought of his beautiful girlfriend; she was so pure, so innocent, with a slight submissive side. Her hair was long and fair, and a dirty blonde colour. Her skin was light and her eyes were a melted chocolate brown. She was short and petite, which Thanatos found absolutely adorable. She was the vision of Life, the physical form of his opposite.
