Chapter 1

My thick blonde hair scattered over my smooth dark face as the wind blew on it. I woke with a startle and slammed my head on the brown oak book case. I grudgingly got up and went to the kitchen. "Oats,Cheese, milk, cereal, nothing interesting" I moaned. I heard a creaking noise and spotted Jason my 17 year old brother. We lived on an ordinary road in an ordinary city but unordinary events always happened.

"Melody, Melody, are you their," whispered my brother trying not wake our parents. Jason and I sat down on the old couch with stains and mould, and we started to talk.

"Melody you're 21 and you still live with your younger brother and your parents, it's just sad," he said bringing me a glass of hot coco.

"Look I know you don't want me hear neither does mum or dad, but just put up with it until I finish my degree, Ok,"

"Fine but can you at least have some sense of tidiness,"

Grrrrr

"Melody, what was that,"

"Probably just the neighbours,"

"I don't think so, but just keep in mind what I've said and... What's that!"

"Jason, shut up your gonna wake mum and dad, it was just the neighbours, ffff ffff, Jason I smell smoke!"

"Holy crap look look! There's flames coming from down stairs!"

"Jason call 000 now! JASON LOOK OUT!!!"

"Melody, thanks for that I would have died without you, but no time to loose get out of the building!"

They rushed down stairs avoiding wooden pillars that caught fire. The two emotionally unstable children hurriedly ran down stairs avoiding more life threatening pillars of death.

Bye now the parents had woken up oblivious to what was going on outside of their locked door. All they heard and saw were screams of their children and the horrible sight of a great big red flame charging towards with 3rd degree burns written all over it. It scorched the mother and grilled the father, they were crumpled on the floor, left to die...

The two children ran down stairs and past the beautiful antique cupboard that would now surrender to the flames. They quickly ran past Jason's room and through the hall, finally they opened the door and saw a bunch of young cops standing round who were petrified of going into a hell hole.

"Quickly call 911,"I whimpered with a dying tone.

"please get him to safety, he's all I have left," I said pointing to Jason

One cop then said in a slang accent "will do missy, he'll be right once the ambulance get ere, he'll be fine,"

1 hour later..

"Hey Melody were lucky to survive that and its all thanks to you," said my brother lying down on a hospital bed hoping there is no bad injuries.

"Yeah I saved your skinny-"

"Melody, we forgot our parents!"

The two children were alone sad and had no one left in this cruel unfair world but if there was one thing they new their parents were hiding something and they were going to find out no matter what...

4 days later

"Ben and Ashley sanders were good people they had two loving and wonderful children who we will here from one right now, Jason Sanders," said the pope.

"My parents were good people, as the pope said, but not because of me and my sister, because they were kind, gentle, independent and funny people. All the qualities that made an amazing person and together they are the best people not because of their similarities or their independence it was their differences that made them 2 of a kind. My mum she didn't have a lot of friends well seeing you all here today clearly makes me think twice about that but as I said they didn't fit in there was always something about them that made them different, it might have been their charisma in a town of dull lonely people, no offence, but their was something not a lot of people knew about them, not even us but I just sensed it right from the words 'it's a boy' there was always a secret they were keeping from us and uhh I know I'm crying please just uhh deal with it and I found out some information the fire that sent my sister to the hospital, unfortunately she's not here today, the fire that put my parents to sleep was no accident it started from the outside and on purpose. Before the fire my sister and I heard a car approach our house and moments later everything was in flames me and my sister believe this person or persons killed our parents, I know it's not my business so I'll stay out of it but to those people, I hate you."

Melody Sanders was in a hospital bed with 2nd degree burns waiting for her brother to come bye her side. She wasn't expecting visitors till 2:00 which was her brother but a man came in and sat down.

"Hello,"

"Who are you?"

"Do you need to know that?"

"Yes!"

"Well I'm not telling you,"

"Fine, why are you here?"

"Well as you know your parents died and they left a will and your on it,"

Jason Sanders was in a cab going to the hospital were he would meet his sister and figure out what to do. Jason was depressed and the cabby noticed this and started a conversation.

"Hi I'm London and you are?"

...

"Hurry up I don't have all day!"

"My names Jason Sanders, I'd rather not talk,"

"Well we have those days and-"

"Shut up! My parents died four days ago!"

"Oi I'm your cabby don't treat me like dirt I have the right to kick you out you know but I need the money so just shut up and be grateful!"

Jason shut up, he didn't want to get into trouble with some cabby but Jason felt that that wasn't the last he'd seen of him.

"Melody, how are you feeling,"

"Fine,"

"Well I just started a conversation with some rude cabby,"

At this Melody peeked interest.

"Was he hot?"

"Melody,"

"Well tell me, was he hot?"

"Yes"

"A man came. He said he was giving everybody on our parents will the thing our parents left them and surprise, surprise we got something. Mum left me a necklace and dad left you this book. But it's got no words and I'm a bit confused and your the smart one so I think you'll be able to decode it."

"Cool, well melody I have decided to try and figure out who killed our parents."

"What, it was an accident no one did it,"

"Well actually the fireman found the source of the fire and it was a torch thrown at the house,"

"Well I don't believe it and don't try to find out who it was,"

"You are so stubborn,"

"Yeah I know"

My little brother and I were alone in this evil and terrible world and we had to fend for ourselves. We knew we wouldn't get help it was up to me to protect us.
