Josh didn't want to get in trouble. Not tonight, at least. But with the girl running behind him, tripping on loose pieces of metal every few steps, something was bound to happen. A group of two Guardsmen we're running behind them, trying to catch them. Josh knew he shouldn't have brought her with him, he should have known better. He had enough trouble trying to find places to go when he's by himself, let alone with another person who is going to fall.
Josh slowed down, reaching the pace of the girl whose name he still doesn't know. "If you don't speed up and control those feet of yours, we're both going down and I'm not about to because of you."
"Josh, I- Shit-"
"You're lucky I didn't just leave you," Josh groaned, speeding up once again, "But follow me, I know where to go."
---
"Tyler? What are you doing up?" Tyler's head quickly turned at the voice, looking at his dad who stood in the middle of the room.
The young boy looked back at his feet hanging from the counter he sat on, "I-I couldn't sleep, so I came out here."
"Again Tyl-"
"Well obviously again, huh!"
It took Tyler a second to realize he raised his voice. His dad looked hurt, but he didn't feel bad. But he knew he had to. Tyler didn't say anything as he walked back into his room, he knew what his dad would do. He would walk in shortly after, stand quietly under the doorframe, and his voice would fill the room for less than minute, then after, quickly leaving. It's what he always did.
"Tyl-"
"I know, dad. I'm sorry, I should but I don't want to. I can't do it. 'It'll take away all your pain and fear!' I don't care!" Tyler stood up, "I just, I can't bring myself to do it. Sorry."
