The only people around to tell their stories are the survivors.
Therefore, we are fed stories of survival, close calls, and success our whole lives.
And, let me tell you, we eat them up.
In these stories, we hear about the friends that died, or got caught, or failed.
But the story teller, the main character, always turns out fine.
They live, and get out of the situation virtually unscathed.
And we, thinking of ourselves as the main characters of our own lives, believe that we, too, will get out of situations untouched.
So we develop a sense of invincibility.
We truly believe that we, as the main character, cannot be harmed.
But we can't all be the survivor.
This world has many stories with many main characters.
And maybe you will be the main character on occasion.
But every story needs those friends.
Those friends that die, or get caught, or fail.
And they, just like us, were fed success stories and had the same sense of invincibility.
And only time will tell if you will be a survivor,
Or be a friend, a lesson, in a survivor's story.
