* Mel Harp's POV *

"Get your butts into the car! I'm leaving in five minutes and we will not return in forever! I never want to see this place again!" that's Mom shouting from downstairs and I grab the last of my things, running towards the twins' room.

As I enter their room, the first thong going through my head was: Are you kidding me! They are not nearly done and we leave in... Three minutes!

"Common kiddos, Emma grab your bears please and Ella please wipe up the water you've spilled.

Footsteps come from the hall and stops in the doorway. "Oh my-"

"Help, please. We're never going make it in time. She'll kill us!" without any other wasted second my little brother helps me gather the rest of the things.

We hurry downstairs just in time. "You're late " my mother snaps, before getting into the car. We follow short after. Driving off to a whole new life where we have to start all over. Once again.

*

Ew. That's all I can say about our new house or should I say dog hound? Urg, it's disgusting. There's watermarks on the walls running down to the ground and I can see the dust on the windowpane from ten feet away. And that's just on the outside.

The garden is defenceless. There's leaves all over the porch and the grass is about two feet above the ground.

"Okay," Mother begins. "This is how it's going to work. I have to get some things done, so you guys have to clean up the house and unpack so long." with that she loads of the car and drives of to who knows where.

"Mel?" Emma takes my hand and looks at me with tears in her little blue eyes.

"It's okay, Em. Let get going. You guys help me get everything inside and then we can start with the twins' room, so that they can start unpacking their room." with that we get to work. Nobody says another word.

My mother said she had some things to take care of, but she actually meant that she had some things to drink of. It's nothing new for her, neither for me.

She wasn't herself these last few weeks, months actually. It all started when my father left. Nothing will ever be the same again.

My mother turned into a monster and she only cares about herself, her drinking-apatite and her self-pity.

That's why I need to be as strong as possible to show my siblings that no matter what, it'll be okay. Although I'm still trying to convince myself more than anybody else.

*

I slide down the wall to the floor. I wipe away the sweat forming on my forehead and lay my head onto my knees. This is exhausting.

It's way part ten already, the kids are all in their spotless bedrooms, fast asleep.

The twins' room is pastel pink and blue, splitting the room in two. Emma is the girly one and Ella loves her sports and balls. Which leaves Emma with the pink side and Ella the blue The rooms actually turned out pretty cute, if I have to say so myself. It was hard work though, but I guess it eventually paid of.

Max, my little brother, is fourteen years old. He's into the whole video game thing. He was old enough to do his own room, though.

I then started on Moms room. She won't be to happy if she doesn't have her hiding spot ready by the time she finally remembers that she has a home to come back to. I didn't put much effort into it, she wouldn't be happy with it anyways, but the basics are there and I'm sure that she'll survive.

After that I started with the lounge, then the kitchen and the hallways.

Oh and did I mention that Max and I are sharing a room? Well, yeah. We are. The room is also split into two sides. His walls are a dark grey and mine a dark purple. I know, it's weird living in the same room as your fourteen year old brother, but it's not like I had much of a choice after all.

Anyways, I'm exhausted after a long dag of driving, cleaning and unpacking. At least I'm almost done. It's only a few more boxes and my side of the bedroom. Then I'm basically done.

Manhattan.

Manhattan?

Why on earth Manhattan? We could've gone anywhere in the world and she chose Manhattan. The place holds so many memories, if she wanted to get rid of everything, why come back to the place where everything is held.

Tomorrow is Sunday and the day after that is Monday, which means it's our first day at school. A new school. Yay.

I never had any friend and I'm not planning on having ones here.

You see, I'm not like most of the teenagers around. I don't party and hang out with people, who talks all day long about anything that comes to mind. I would rather stay at home all day with my nose in a book, in my bed with a cup of hot coco, a jar of ice-cream and a bowl of popcorn.

That's my idea of fun.

I don't talk much either. I only speak if it's really nessisary and that's only when I talk to my siblings. That's it. I don't need to waste my voice on other things or other people and... I might lose my ability to speak if I get confronted.

Well, this is basically me for now. There isn't much of me to know so no need to worry about me.
