They had just stolen his new orange basketball that he received from his grandmother who lived kilometres away in Scotland, so it appeared to him as a very special gift. Anger rose in him and his (now hot) face went as red as a tomato's bright flesh. Fists bunched at his sides, his knuckles the colour of whipped cream. He was uncomfortably perched on the end of the long metal bench seat. Luca felt as if he should stand up for himself, over these long battles of humiliating pain and fury. The three bullies ( the head of the crew's name was Leon) gleefully dragged and scraped Luca's basketball along the rough, ridged concrete of the school court, grinning and chuckling having a great time. Luca could see the grip being worn off, leaving it all smooth, he felt as if HE was loosing grip too. He wanted to do something about it but he couldn't bring himself to getting up from the shiny silver seat he was sitting on, it was as if there was glue stuck to the seat, preventing anyone who sat on it from getting up, trying to free themselves from tragedy. Luca turned his head to face the miniature garden with its beautiful tulips and red roses. The water droplets on the flowers delicate, soft petals glistened from the rays of the bright, warm sun. It had rained just that morning and a sparkling rainbow had formed, remaining their for a couple of hours. Luca remembered that pleasant time, when he pulled back the curtains revealing the colourful, striped rainbow. Luca was snapped out of his pleasurable day dream by the irritating school teachers squawking, "Period three, move it!" repeating it over and over. As Luca slowly made his way to his feet, a basketball hit him hard and fast in the stomach. "Ohhh!" he groaned. His orange rimmed glasses slipped and fell of his freckled face. The ball bounced away and his hands automatically scooped below his raw knees, frantically searching for his falling glasses. 'I'm too late,' he thought to himself with a gloomy face. And for sure he was right, his expensive glasses lens had shattered everywhere. He felt blind. As blind as a bat, as they say.
