Starting Over

I can't let them know

Elena's POV
I don't even know how long I have been in the basement. It feels like months but it's only been days. I haven't eaten and I'm hungry as hell. Damon comes in and my vision has been going in and out.
D:" you look terrible"
E:" I'm hungry not that you care"
D" but I do, that's the whole point. I do care, you don't care." He reaches behind his back and pulls something out.
D:" About time for that to change" He hand me a blood bag. I never grabbed it so fast in my life. I start to drink it taste so good but then I start to feel this burning sensation and start spitting it out, he put vervain in the blood bag.
E:" vervain!"
D: " how does that make you feel? Hurt? Cause I betrayed you? Angry cause I would cause you pain? Or scared? Cause you know it's gonna get a lot worse?" I'm not paying any attention to him. I'm trying to figure a way out. I think they're starting to catch on. I use all the vampire speed I have to run out the cellar door. But Stefan is standing right in front on me. Damn it!
E:" You boys wanna play games? Go ahead. Let's see who breaks first? Me?" I turn to look to Damon then Stefan.
E:"Or you?" I keep starting at him. He comes in and shuts the cellar door. I just need to keep up this charade up until I can find a way out. I can't let them know. No matter how bad I have to hurt their feelings.

Elena's POV
I'm walking toward school.
C: "Elena, you're here. I got valedictorian! You can help me write my speech."
E: "Pass."
C: "Come on, we're graduating this year, this is it! We need to soak up every second before-"
E:"Wait. Something's not right. I don't want to be here."
D:"What is wrong with you? Don't you wanna be with your friends? Graduation parties, caps, gowns, you know the drill."
E:"What is this..."
I look around and everybody's gone.
E:"We're not really here, are we? We're in my head."
D:"Relax. I just wanted to show you all of the things that you've been missing out on since you took the giant leap over the cuckoo's nest."
I drop my bag
E:"The last thing I remember..."
D:"Let me guess: prom? Beautiful dress, gorgeous hair, you trying to murder Bonnie? It's a good thing I was there to take care of you."
E:"You starved me. You and Stefan-"
D: "Yeah, well, we had to keep you weak so I could bring you here. See, the way I figure it is, if I can make you nostalgic, then you're already halfway to getting your humanity back."
E:"It's not gonna work, Damon."
D:"Well, there are other ways to provoke an emotional response."

Stefan's POV
S: "You still have her locked in the safe? You've been in her head for an hour. What, still nothing?" He has been at this for hours.
D:"How you doing in there?"
He unlocks the safe and opens the door. Elena is inside, weak and apparently barely conscious. Damon pulls her out. I hate seeing her like this but it's the only way to get her humanity back.
D:"Come on."
Elena falls to the ground and Damon crouches down in front of her.
D:"Is the old you ready to come out and play?"
E:"Go to hell"
D:"Okay. Back you go."
Damon puts Elena back into the safe and locks it.
D:"We can do this the nice way, or we can do it the other way...but either way, we're not stopping until you turn your humanity switch back on. So I'm gonna let you think about that, and I'm gonna come back for you in a couple hours, or a couple years...because all we have is time."

About an hour later Caroline storms into the house, looking around for Elena.
C:"Where is she? I wanna see her."
S:"We're not letting anyone see her, that's the whole point. Isolation leads to misery leads to emotion."
C:"She's been here for days. She hasn't improved at all?"
S:"Look, she doesn't want to, Caroline, not yet. She's devastated; she lost her brother, she-she attacked her friend, she killed an innocent woman."
C:"You said that you knew how to help her."
S:"I did say that. We are."
C:"What, how? By torturing her?"
S:"It's not torture, it's an intervention. The only chance we have with her is to provoke her, to trigger something. Fear, anger, self-pity, anything."
C:"Let me talk to her. Before any more interventioning. If she's weak, she can't hurt me. Please, just let me try."
S:"Good luck."

Elena's POV  
I need to get out! I need to get as far as possible from Mystic Falls. But how can I do that when I have 2 vampires that are much more powerful then me and I haven't eaten in days so I don't have a chance to get away.
I hear someone open the cellar door. It's Caroline. God I've been a total bitch to her and now I have to keep it up so they won't know.
C:" I brought you something. It doesn't have any vervain in it, I swear. I just figured a little blood might help you think straight."
She walks towards me holding out the bottle after she opens it. I pauses for a moment thinking it's another trick but I know she is wouldn't do that. She's too caring. I grab the bottle and drinking it desperately.
C:"For the record, I don't agree with what they're doing. I mean, I agree that you need to turn your humanity back on, but I don't think that making you suffer is the way to do it. That's not who you are."
I'm spinning the empty bottle on the stone floor.
E;"What makes you such an expert on who I am?"
C;"Because we've been friends forever."
E:"I tried to kill you, Caroline. I'm not exactly BFF-material anymore. You should move on." I hurt her so much I just want to grab her and hug her but I can't. I need to be a stone cold bitch to her, to everyone. I continue to spin the bottle on the floor until Caroline reaches out suddenly and stills it.
C:"I am not going to give up on you."
E:"This annoying, clingy thing that you're doing-- did it ever occur to you maybe that's why both your boyfriends skipped town? I mean, I know that Tyler said he was running for his life, but maybe he was running from you. And Klaus? I mean, let's just say it: nobody likes a tease."
Caroline rolls her eyes, making an exasperated sound.
E:"Hey, I'm not judging. Might be nice to have a bad boy ruffle those perfect feathers." I know exactly to say to get under her skin.
C:"You're in pain, you're lashing out, I get it. But you can't stay this way forever. We're about to graduate, and start new lives! And you deserve-"
E:"Are you seriously talking about high school graduation? Caroline, do you realize how pathetic you're gonna look in that cap and gown, pretending to be human while your mom fake-smiles and just counts down the minutes until you leave town so that you can stop being a reminder that her daughter is a repulsive, blood-sucking control freak monster?"
Caroline, losing her patience, stands up and turns away. I just need to do it so I can get out of here. I'm not really gonna hurt her.
E:"It's really too bad Stefan stopped me before I put you out of your misery, but hey, here's to second chances."
I vamp-speeds over to Caroline to attack her. Caroline holds me off while I growl,teeth bared.
C:"Elena."
I don't let up, so Caroline snaps my neck. Elena falls to the floor. Stefan returns, standing behind Caroline. She speaks without looking at him.
C:"Do whatever you have to do. I'm gonna be upstairs."
