Chapter 10

I wake up and hear a loud knocking at the front door.

"Peyton! Peyton!" I say "wake up, I think the police are at the door!" She gets up and walks to the window.

"Shit, there here!"

"What do I do!" I say

"I don't know, here!" She goes to her window and quietly slides it open.

"Go out here" she says

I walk over to the window and crawl out in to the daylight, I'm I'm nothing but my underwear and socks.

PEYTONS POV.

I close the window behind skyler and slip on my light blue skinny jeans and a white T-shirt as I hear my mother open the door and say

"There are a few policemen here that want to speak to you" she says concerned. I walk out and get to the stairs and take a deep breath and walk down. There are four of them standing in my living room.

"Take a seat right here please" one deep voices man says. I nervously sit down on the couch.

"Last night there was a fight at a party. Quite a few boys were injured, do you know how it started?"

"Umm, well my boyfriend came to the party, and saw me kissing another boy, my boyfriend came at him but the boy only was defending himself." I say

"And what about the others"

"They were my boyfriends friends, they were only helping him."

"So it was them who had started the fight, not the other boy?"

"Yes"

"We've heard two different stories, do you happen to know where the boy is, he was picked up by someone last night while running away from the police?" He asks

"No, I haven't seen him since the party." I lie

"Ok, thank you for your time, if you do see him, please call us.

"Of course"

They walk out the front door and my mother asks-

"Are they talking about the boy I caught you with last night?"

"Yes mom"

"You can get into a lot of trouble with him Peyton"

"Mom he did nothing but defend himself"

"Then why did he run?" She asks

"Because they weren't going to believe him, they won't believe him over Luke"

"Why not?"

"Because he's been arrested before."

"Arrested! And you are hiding him right now?!" She yells

"Mom he's not like that, he just, he just went down the wrong path."

"Oh so you think you can change this boy? You can't change his kind Peyton!"

"His kind?, he's a foster kid, I'm his only friend. Someone has to help him, he's a good kid mom!

"Peyton he can't stay here, not here"

I ignore her and run upstairs and see skyler on the bed in his underwear, I can't help but stare at him.

"My moms freaking out" I say

"Yeh I heard"

"I'm sorry skyler, I got you into this, and they aren't going to believe you, they will believe luke and-"

"I know it's ok, just calm down Peyton" he puts his hand on my shoulder as I sit down.

"You can't go back to your house yet, not until we get this all straightened out"

"I'll stay here then, but you have to go to school today" he says smiling at me as I remember it's Monday.

I go outside and start walking, I would usually drive but well, my cars at the bottom of a lake, what a great fucking conversation that will be with mom. I leave at 5:00 because it will at least take me an hour to get to school walking. I get to school and instantly people start bombarding me with questions. I tell them all the same thing I told the police, that I kissed skyler, it was self defense, I retold the story so many times. I couldn't help but look for Luke, but he wasn't in school, he was in the hospital with the other boys. I feel bad for hurting luke like that, but he never wanted to do anything but have sex and show me off to other people, he didn't want me the way I wanted skyler, I wanted to be with skyler.

The day finally ended and I was almost off campus when Britt came up beside me in her car.

"Got a way to get home bitch?" She asked

"No" I said

"Get in" I get into the car and Britt starts with the questions. I tell the same story that I've told all day.

"So you don't want to be with luke?"

"No, I don't think so"

"I wouldn't either, he's a scum bag, wait where's your car"

"Umm" I look over at Britt, my best friend since second grade. I tell her about the chase.

"Your moms gonna literally shit when she hears that" Britt says stunned.

"I know" she's right

I get home and walk upstairs and see skyler sitting on my bed watching tv.
