Training, Day 1, Period 2
Peridot led Lapis down the hall in silence. Well isn't this just a whole bundle of awkward. She looked at Lapis more closely now. She had the most beautiful blue eyes... Silvery blue that reminded her of pictures she had seen of the ocean. Her face had a certain angry but peaceful look to it. She wore a jacket over her cadet uniform, it was obviously very old. It had sown on patches and beautiful embroidery some of which looked fairly new.
"You just gonna gawk at me the whole walk?" Lapis muttered, still not looking at Peridot. Peridot could feel a bright pint hue creep over her face. She looked down at her feet quickly.
"I-I wasn't gawking, or... or even looking at anything.....for your information." She spoke shakily. Why couldn't she seem to speak normally when Lapis addressed her? Peridot held open the door to the office room. She took her schedule out of her pocket. This period is just...team building?
"So," Lapis stretched on a yoga mat in the side of the room. "What are we doin' today Miss."
The way Lapis said Miss was so... strange. Even a bit flirtatious. Peridot's face turned bright red, and she didn't even need a mirror to know it. "J-Just getting to know each other I guess." Peridot mumbled. She pulled out a mat and sat it next to Lapis'. "Since I am going to be your trainer for the rest of the year."
"Don't mean you gotta know anything about me." Lapis spat. What was with this girl, one minute she acts like your worst enemy and the next your best friend.
"Nope it doesn't." Peridot sighed. Did Lapis maybe soften because she?... No. Not happening, never will. I mean... She is....so beautiful.. but that's not how this works. This is not going to be like those books where they have a forbidden love between the mentor and apprentice. Those stories are always trash. If this was a story, I would want it to be a noble one at the very least. I wish I was in a book.... Wait... Maybe I can use the possibility to get her to tell, and then to trust me even a bit. Even a bit of trust would make this year go from utterly miserable to just miserable.
"But, if I know nothing about you, your not gonna know anything about me then." She smirked without a thought but Peridot suddenly dropped the smirk. My story will not be trash.
Lapis smiled her dimply cute smile and scooted closer to Peridot. Peridot could practically hear her heartbeat ringing in her ears. Nope, Nope and Nope.
"User heartbeat over 150 beats per minute. Do not resume strenuous exercise." Peridot's watch beeped.
Lapis scooted closer mockingly. She tapped Peridot's watch. "Strenuous exercise huh?"
Peridot tried to hide her beat red face. "T-This dang thing. Obviously broken."
Lapis rolled her eyes. "Alright. Well... first getting to know each other question. How old are you?"
Peridot looked down at the floor. "I'm twenty one. You?"
"Nineteen. Twenty next week." The way Lapis spoke was as if she didn't have a care in the world. But it was strange because Peridot knew that she had something eating her inside. She could recognize the feeling pretty well being able to relate herself.
Peridot looked down at her hand. Lapis' hand was sneaking closer to hers.
"Heartbeat over 170 beats per minute. Please discontinue from any further exercise until heartbeat returns to resting at 89." Peridot's watch beeped. She took it off and flung it across the room. It smashed against the wall with a loud crash. Footsteps suddenly pounded down the hallway and Peridot scrambled away from Lapis. Lapis looked... like this hurt her. Amethyst swung open the door huffing and puffing.
"Peridot, You okay? She didn't hurt you did she?" Amethyst asked still trying to catch her breath.
"I-I'm just fine."
"What was that crash?" She asked curiously.
"J-Just my watch. Dropped the thing." Peridot responded shortly. She was a horrible liar and she knew it. Amethyst bought it though, more likely because of the corpse of her watch shattered into pieces than her lying skills.
"Well, gotta go back to training," Amethyst began to leave, and as she did Peridot noticed Lapis glaring at her. "See Ya' Peri." The door closed with a bang.
Peridot and Lapis sat in prolonged silence for the rest of the day. Despite doing literally nothing the whole day, Peridot didn't feel bored for a second. Lapis' company was enough, even in the form of deafening silence.
