The dusty wind swirled around them, the soft cry of the child made the other figures shudder. They padded off, the noises of their shoe soles and talons shattered the silence. Then it all went quiet, the dust storm continued to whirl around them scraping their eyes, legs, and back. The rock flakes stung like a thousand lashings, but they couldn't go back now, they would be caught, they committed treason. If they went back, it would be their demise. They had to do it, they couldn't take it anymore.
Ba dum ba dum! The clanking of armor and clamping of horses sounded as a warning. They were nearing. But the group was so close, so close to sanctuary! They doused the candles and ran off. They could see the fires of the enemies torches as they ran, they could imagine their hot breath on their necks. Then they found it, in the darkness, their sanctuary. They swept in on wings of speed and disappeared into the darkness, with the wrapped up babe by their side.
