Genie. What a peculiar name to call an entity of seemingly unlimited power. You would expect them to fulfill your top wishes with no question and no side affects. Just your perfect wish. Just total obedience. Just a total myth.

The sun shone brightly through the curtains of the Hauphner's humble abode. The mother was up and preparing breakfast for her husband and children, the father was finishing up the lawn, the older sister was preparing her makeup as if she were going out on a date, the twins were rubbing their sleepy eyes while hugging their favorite stuffed animal, and the second oldest child was....... still in bed.
Zoe stayed under the covers as she stared at the ceiling of her room. She didn't want to get up today. Not on a Saturday. But, sadly, she had to. Groggily shoving her legs off the bed, she propped her arms to support herself to push off the warm, plushy bed. She headed down the carpeted steps, not bothering to change out of her pajamas, and straight to the kitchen to help her mother with the waffles. When her mother's gaze was transferred to her, she reeled back in disgust at her attire.
"Zoe," Her mother quietly shrieked, "what on earth are you wearing? Oh, never mind. Pass me the vanilla extract, please." After dumping some vanilla extract she cupped her hand around her mouth to broaden her voice volume. "BREAKFAST'S READY!"
The thumping of tiny feet were inevitable to miss as the twins, Lewis and Travis, scurried to the kitchen like rats in a sewer. They had big smiles on their faces as they smelled the waffles baking.
"The waffles smell good, Mum!" Travis said as he sat on his chair.
"Yea! They smell amazing, Mom!" Lewis joined. "Can we have syrup and cherries with them?"
"Cherries? That gross!"
Their mom snickered, "That's only your opinion, Travis. Zoe, can you get out the syrup from the pantry?"
Zoe shuffled to the pantry to fish out the sweet sappy topping and brought it to the wooden table were the blond twins sat with big blue eyes. The sound of metal clanking against each other got louder as Jasmine, the oldest sister, stomped into the room with a look of disgust on her face.
"Ugh! You will not believe what just happened, Mom!" The brunette complained. "Hannah said yesterday that I couldn't be Prom Queen. Does she even know who she's talking to?"
Travis giggled, "Someone who's too full with herself."
"Mom! Did you just hear what he said!" Jasmine gasped. "Why did you give birth to these two little savages? Couldn't you be satisfied with just me?"
"Never mind that, Jas. Go sit and wait. Zoe, grab the napkins in the butler's pantry," their mother said while grabbing plates and stacking one waffle on all six plates.
As the waffles were set down in each spot, a man with rusty brown hair and sweaty skin walked in with a big yawn. A blue hat covered his messy locks. He smiled as he walked up to his wife and kissed her cheek, receiving an 'ew' friends the twins.
"Mornin', hon." He ruffled the twins blond hair that matched their mother's color. "Mornin', rascals." He nodded at the girl whose faces was covered with makeup. "Mornin', sweetheart." He flashed a toothy grin at the strawberry blonde and snapped his finger that turned into a point. "Mornin', buttersnap."
"Morning, Dad," they replied.
"Well," the mother said, "eat up." Without hesitation, the whole family devoured their meal. Lewis attempted to balance a cherry on his nose, but failed miserably. Their mother shook her head. Her blue eyes suddenly lit up, and she cleared her throat. "Well, I have good news, family!" The children gave her a confused look. "We're going to a garage sale! Isn't that fun!" Groans sounded from the children. "Oh, come on! It's not like it's the end of the world. It's just a garage sale."
"That sounds—" their father started.
"Like a horrible idea!" Jasmine ended. "Do you know how long it took me to do my nails? I don't want them ruined by some cheap junk!"
"You'll enjoy it when you're older, hon."
     "Ha! As if."
"Well," their mother clapped, "a decision's a decision; and I say we're going!" No one argued after her.

The ride to a small one floor house wasn't long. When they got there, the parents slid out the car and started to observe the priced objects. It was fairly empty since their neighborhood was small.
While the children's parents searched for their chosen possessions, their offspring had other ideas. Lewis and Travis, who had brought over their stuffed animals, played in the grass. Jasmine, who was constantly shooing flies and mosquitoes, you could easily tell was greatly displeased with the condition of the slightly run down house. Zoe, on the other hand, took a look around to see if anything were to catch her eye.
Zoe's hazel eyes caught way of the two owners of the 'pigs den', as Jasmine would so nicely put it. They looked like a lovely couple in their older ages, looking at least past the age of fifty. The man had dirty blonde hair with silver streaks lining his hairline, behind his glasses were two misty blue eyes that looked glossed over from age, his skin seemed to cling to what was left of muscle and bone but his face, with not many bags, looked kind and welcoming. The lady looked like a resemblance of his, except younger and different color features. Her black, short hair reached her shoulders, and her brown eyes glinted with joy to see all the people coming. Her skin was tanned, like a Mexican's, but a little lighter than usual. Freckles dusted her cheeks with dark brown spots. When the lady took notice of Zoe's gaze on them, he waved to call her over to them. Seeing the gesture, Zoe went over to the couple who had large smiles on their faces.
"Hello, child," the woman's soft voice said. "Are you looking for something in particular? Perhaps jewelry or headbands?"
Zoe shrugged, "Just something that catches my eye. I'm not like my sister."
The male chuckled, "Well, there must be something you must like." His voice was hoarse. "Do sports spark your interest, young lady?" Zoe shrugged and shook her head. "How about mechanics?" Zoe shook her head again. "Magic?" The strawberry blonde hesitated. Did she like magic. The thought certainly caught her interest. She slowly nodded. A toothy smile edged its way onto the man's face. "Come along; ill show you something magical."
Zoe obediently followed the man to one of the many white tables that were filled with gadgets and gizmos aplenty. While the man stood next to the table as Zoe searched, one particular item caught her gaze. An turquoise gem with silver and violet splashed with the turquoise. It was outlined with a gold trim, and a gold chain to act on as a necklace. Although she wasn't that into jewelry, the colors seem to swirl witching itself, causing her attention specifically to that item. The man caught notice and stepped next to the female.
"Ah, so, you're interested in this beauty?" She nodded, not looking away from the amulet. "Lucky for you, it happens to be free. Keep it, but be careful." The man leaned closer to Zoe and whispered to her, "It likes to cause a little mischief."
Zoe chuckled at the ridiculous statement. She felt a wave of paranoia sweep through her, but put it off as the heat. It was a very sunny day after all. After hopping back into the car, her siblings and parents hopped in as well and drove back home.
"Did you kids buy anything today?" Their mother asked.
"Nah," Travis sighed while moving the arm of his animal. "It was boring stuff that I didn't want."
"How about you, Jas?"
"As if!" Was her snarky remark.
"Zoe?"
"I got a necklace," she said timidly.
"You got a necklace? I can't believe my royal ears!"
"Jaz!" Their mother shushed. "That's wonderful, Zoe."
"Yea.... I guess it is."

Zoe sat on her bed observing the amulet necklace in her hand, her eyes scrunched as she peered at it like a detective would with a clue. She couldn't place why this thing would give her chills. It was exciting, though. Maybe there was some sort of magic inside it? Zoe snorted at the thought.
"A shot wouldn't hurt," she whispered as she lazily rubbed its smooth surface. It was cold beneath her fingertips. "Oh, genie," Zoe said sarcastically, "welcome your new master." When nothing happened, she shrugged and placed it onto her dresser. Then suddenly, fog filled her room to the brim, and Zoe shrieked in surprise. A deep rumble sounded all around her that was so loud the female had to cover her ears. She shut her eyes tight as she waited the chaos to be over. When the fog disappeared, she opened one hazel eye to check around the room. What she saw made her gasp.
"Hello, Master. Your Genie has arrived."
