It was July 6,1957
The day that changed everything.
Paul was lazily leaning on his best, staring at the few records he managed to scrounge the money for. He really wasnt planning on doing much that summer day but his friend, Ivan Vaughn had asked him if he wanted to go to the fete at St. Peter's Church. Paul had thought this an odd question but Ivan mentioned a friend of his was going to play there. Paul hadn't even considered it before but a mixture of curiosity and boredom finally made Paul decide to go.
Ivan had beamed at him while Paul just rolled his eyes good naturedly.
"This bloke better be good." Warned Paul.
Ivan had merely grinned, excitement flashing in his eyes.
"Oh, he will be." Ivan assured him.
"What was his name again?"
"John. John Lennon."
Paul sat up and started to leave his room, grabbing his jacket on the way. He paused and glanced at his guitar. An undecided look in his eyes. He shrugged and grabbed it, swinging it or his shoulder.
"Bye Da, I'm going out!" He called.
Not waiting for an answer, he walked outside, enjoying the fresh air.
He headed quickly to the fete. He paused and looked around.
"You came." Said a familiar voice.
Paul turned around. "Said I would, didn't I?"
Ivan dipped his head in acknowledgement. "There's John." He nodded at one of the boys who was already singing center stage.
Paul looked, a slight form of interest passing over his face.
After a few seconds, he began to frown. "He isn't singing the correct words!" He accused.
Ivan nodded his head. "Yes but he somehow makes it sound just as good."
Paul was beginning to feel stirring of doubt. "If you say so."
"You should meet him." Said Ivan after a few beats of silence. "Get to know him like."
Paul shrugged. "Maybe."
But he couldn't help but feel a twinge of excitement. John sounded like he had real passion in his voice, real passion for music. And he knew the same tunes Paul did.
"I'll think about it." Paul finally said.
