Her husband comes home late at night, smells like a lady's Bulgari perfume and his collar stained with red lipstick. She knew something was up but then pushed every thought she has with him. So here she was, tangled up in the sheets with the man she loves. Lips to lips, skin to skin, but their eyes never met each other and no sparks was between them. Moan after moan, it was another sex they had that consisted of pure lust and not love.
The morning after that, it was just her. No husband next to him, no kisses to pepper her with and everything was just nothing. It was just her alone in this bed they share, the sheets were draped over her to cover her bare body from last night. She figured that her husband left but seeing that it was still seven in the morning, it left her puzzled as to why he left too early. She knew his work schedule, he used to leave the house around nine but it seemed he has other early plans to attend to.
She brushed the feeling off again and decided to leave the bed and the thoughts behind and went to shower. While she was taking a bath, the thoughts felt like surfacing up inside her head which caused a few tears to stream down along with the water trickling down her body. No, he's not doing anything with anybody. She thought. She soon then turned the shower off and quickly went back to their bedroom wearing a white robe.
Her phone rang a short while as she wiped the tears that streamed down her cheeks. "Hello?"
"Ev?" Her husband's voice spoke. She noticed that he spoke in monotone, not his sweet voice that sometimes even coo whenever they speak. She also noticed that he didn't call her 'babe' or 'baby' for that matter. "Evelyn, are you there?"
"Yes, Chris. You left early tod—"
"Can you pack my things today? I'm leaving for a business trip in London tonight at eight and I'll probably be home by six after I finish these paperworks." He didn't even let her finish her sentence, she sighed and couldn't help her heart to break a little.
"Do you still have time for dinner with me?" She hopes he would say yes because it was his last night with her after all and they haven't eaten dinner — or any meal for that matter, together for a few weeks now.
"I'm not—"
"Please, Chris. It's your last night with your wife, don't you want to spare me a little amount of your time?" She heard him sigh on the other line. It felt like she already know the answer but she keeps her negative thoughts away and still became an optimist.
"Fine, Ev." He huffed. "I got to go. I'll see you tonight."
"I love—" Before she could even finish what she was about to say, he already ended the call. She dropped her phone on the bed but then bounced to the floor with a thud. Evelyn didn't mind her phone anymore and went to change into her work uniform quickly, not wasting any time anymore so that she could leave work later early to pack his things and prepare for dinner.
