My name is Maliah, I'm 18 years alone, currently living alone. I grew up on the East Coast of the United States with my mom, moving when she could no longer afford the stay. I have no siblings, and my father OD'd when I was 3.
My father was a white man, age of 22 when he met my mother. A black woman, whom was at the time 19. Six months after meeting, my father inevitably got my mother pregnant.
The story of how they met:
It was at the a mutual friends house. It was the start of 1998, and their friend was throwing a New Years party. Their friend - who is also my God Father - was Kevin Ramirez. At the time he was the toughest guy on the block. Everyone loved Kevin, and so everyone came to the party.
My mom and dad, at the time, were not in their best situations. My dad had gotten hooked on coke, and my mom was off and on with a known drug dealer. But that night at the party, with all the people that were there, they talked to each other. And it was destined, my and dad fit well together. His death is something she never really got over, but that's a story for another time.
That night my mom was really upset. Kevin urged my father to talk to her, to take her mind off things. He told my dad about her relationship with her (ex)boyfriend. And when my dad looked at her, Kevin knew that he wanted her.
My mom was took back by my father, having the courage to talk to her, in a time where biracial relationships were still frowned upon. Knowing there was no way the man in front of her didn't know who she "belonged", and what he would do if he knew she was talking to another guy, and a white guy of all people. But my father didn't care - he always said in this world you shouldn't go by race, that it's the same as judging a book by its cover.
They spent the whole time at the party together, and afterwards my mom stayed at my fathers apartment. I was told from that night on, they spent every day together until he passed.
After three months my parents were engaged, and three months after that my mom was pregnant. They had their wedding when my mom was six months pregnant with me, and shortly after, I was born.
