My moonlit song
It echoes smoothly through the darkness that is my empty mind. It begins to mend my shattered soul and it fills the canyons of pain and sorrow within my still beating heart. It is a sound like no other and I can't live on without it now.
She sings her melodious song when the moon and stars shine like true diamonds in the darkness of the black night. It soothes me to my very core and peacefully I allow my pain-filled tears to stream down my ashen face and drip silently onto the pillows of grass beneath my bare feet.
With her melody fresh and engraved in the granite that is my memory...
I used to believe arrogantly that to move on from this I only needed to forget...
How foolish.
My shaking hands hold the instrument that speaks for my soul on this moonlit night. I stand before your place of rest for the first time since that tragic day. Closing my eyes I began to play my violin,
the sound vibrating through me and the silver light of the full moon my guide.
Her voice echo my grief and pain. The freezing winter winds dances along with me. Then as I open my teary black eyes I see the beauty you once told me about so long ago. This is my atonement to you...
Mother
My body moves interlaced with the song and wind is joined by my serene voice to speak to you once more for they are my words to you. The emotions I have kept caged for so long finally are set free and I close my eyes once more...
The memories of our time together come to me and
I see
and live
and feel
each one again.
Time itself seems to have stopped to listen to my sorrowful song. My ocean of tears each hold all my love for you
my dearest Mother...
With the final of my memories ending so does the song come to it's final
crescendo.
Lowering my violin, your most treasured item, now my most precious memory and friend...
I fall to my knees next to where your peaceful body sleeps. The silver moon comes out and it's silvery light caresses me soothingly and the winter winds surround me and with their icy touch I feel their comfort and care.
A Barn owl lands gracefully and majestically upon your gravestone. I looked tearfully at the nightly raptor, and what I saw was you, Mother...
Softly I said...
"I'm sorry Mother
Sorry for everything I did...
And for never saying...
... I love you..."
And silently I left, but not before I prayed for you to find peace in your eternal sleep...
