Lucy looked at the room around her. She didn't know how she ended up here. Lucy leaned back in her chair. In front of her was a desk. A young woman with blonde hair and big purple glasses busied herself over some papers. Behind the desk was a poster that all 'Troubled' kids recognized. It was the dreaded kitten hanging from a branch and it said hang on there. Lucy growled. Lucy decided that if she was stuck in this office she could at least tell herself a story. That's what she did whenever she ended up in this horrid office. And today's story was Lucy's story.
Jonathan Timber married the beautiful teacher Genevieve Giles.
Together they settled down on Bruner Boulevard.
Sadly Genevieve could not have children.
She wanted to have children very badly.
Jonathan hated seeing Genevieve so sad so he decided that they should adopt.
The couple called the adoption agency and the agency pointed them to a small girl from Africa who was not even named yet.
The baby's mother decided she was too young to raise a child.
Genevieve and Jonathan adopted the small baby girl.
When Genevieve got the baby she cried with joy.
The couple named their daughter Sheluca.
Genevieve taught human geography so she insisted their daughter have an uncommon name. But Jonathan didn't want their daughter to be teased so they called her Lucy.
They thought they would just call her Lucy until she was five but the name stuck.
Lucy was jolted out of her story.
"Ahem. Lucy it's time for the usual." Said Miss Hangar. Lucy rolled her eyes.
"Is it already? I thought I was only in here for an hour. Well time passes by." Lucy said innocently.
"Lucy. You need to learn to control your temper. Every time you yell at other kids and hurt them the more consequences you will earn. The school has tried Counseling,"
"That was boring." Lucy said.
"We tried detention,"
"Did Mr Marcos ever get that spit ball out of his ear?" Lucy said acting like she cared.
"We tried everything except the two punishments that the school likes to leave for last. " Said Miss Hangar.
"And what are those?" Lucy said. She was curious. She thought the school had tried everything.
"First is to call your parents." Said Miss Hangar. Lucy gaped. Her parents had no clue what she did everyday.
"No don't do that. " Lucy begged. She didn't want her parents to know how much she was in the school therapist's office. Then they would try to 'Help' Lucy. Lucy didn't need help. Begging wasn't Lucy's style. It made adults think she was weak. Lucy was not weak.
"If you behave well, stay quiet and don't touch anyone we won't have to even mention this to your parents. " Said Miss Hangar. Lucy did her best to hold in her gasp of relief. Behaving well for a week couldn't be that hard. "But if you misbehave one more time this school year the school will resort to calling your parents." Lucy's mouth fell open. There was still so much left of the school year. It was April. There was about two more months. If Lucy goofed up ONE more time she would have to admit to her parents she went to counseling.
"I... will try my best to behave." Lucy said sadly. Miss Hangar smiled.
"That's all I want. You may go home." Lucy stomped off.
Lucy was still steaming by the time she had walked the mile home. There was a tiny pink cube car in the driveway. That was strange. Genevieve drove a navy blue mini van and Jonathan drove a Mazda 5 so that was neither of Lucy's parents cars. But Lucy moms car was in the driveway. Jonathan didn't get home from work until 6:00. Lucy jogged to the front door and peeked her head in. She had learned that people say more interesting things when they don't know your there. Genevieve was sitting at the dining room table with a tall tan blonde woman with skimpy pink clothes on.
"You like totally should follow your heart. If your mom like really needs you it's time you step up and help her out when she totally needs you. It'd be for the best." Said the blonde.
"Yes, but I completely isolated myself from my family. My mom has cancer. My dad didn't feel it was important enough to tell me so I doubt he wants my help, Hershey. You should have heard the last words he said to me." Said Genevieve. Lucy had heard the words. Lucy took her head out from the door and ran out to the backyard. She sat under a big tree. It was time to recount Genevieve's childhood.
