''Charlotte, why are you so subtle?''My next door neighbor asked over the white picket fence that separated our yards. I never understood the meaning of painting fences white.

''Well, Mrs. Wedday, life has it's moments. In those moments, you can be two things. One is drunk, and the other is sober.''

''Which are you, then?''

I smirked at the ground. ''Me? Sadly, I'm sober.''

''Look at me, Miss Charlotte. In life, when you are sober, you are aware of the peaks and lows of your emotions. But when drunk, the mind thinks about one thing and one thing only.''

I chuckled. ''And what might that be, Mrs. Wedday?''

''Being sober.''
