I would look outside my window, and see a mansion on the hillside . To most people it would look like a haunted house of sorts, but to me it was strangely beautiful. It was a dark Victorian style mansion. Most of the people in the village would call it "The Haunted House". It was said to be hunted. The villagers would tell a tale of a girl who died there, and that now some old crazy lady lives there. I once heard that even the groundskeeper was afraid of going inside that place, but although many people wouldn't dare go near that place it had been my dream, for as long as I could remember, to go inside the mansion. I couldn't understand it, but something was compelling me towards that place. It was like as if it was my destiny to figure out it's secret.

Most days I will wake up at the crack of dawn to go out and milk the cows. Then I would come inside and eat breakfast. Once completing breakfast I would go back outside to collect the eggs that the chickens had laid. Then I was off to the village to sell the eggs. Once the last egg was sold I would usually make it just in time for school. The second school got out I would run home, do the rest of my chores, eat dinner, do my homework, and then go to bed. I would wake up the next morning to just repeat it all over again.

On one particular day things were not the same. It was the end of October. By this time in the year the leaves on the trees had turn bright gold and orange hues. It was so beautiful. This time of year was always my favorite. Outside the air with slightly chilly. I loved it when it was cold enough to wear my hooded cape, but not cold enough that I had to wear my woolen dress.

I also liked that on this particular day we did not have to go to school. That day was one of the few days of the year that we did not go to school. It was the day of the Autumn Festival. The Autumn Festival was one of the most celebrated events of the village.

No one knew for sure how this festival came about, but it was said to have been going on for over 100 years. The villagers would say that the festival started sometime in the 1700s.

If you were to listen to the villagers talk you would hear many theories, but they all seamed to have one common element and that was the "Haunted House".
