Fires burn like hundreds of torches in the darkening night sky,turning the trees to charcoal and lighting the leaf litter.Knowing this is my only chance at escape,I grab my black bag and throw on a black jacket,running through the open door towards the burning forest.
Running towards the fire,the air heats around me. I'm sweating,my musles burn and ache but I don't stop. Flame infested branches drop in front and behind me bursting as they hit the ground.I dodge them and don't stop because I know if I do then I will die and not only me but Zara and Alfie too.Flames singe my skin and cloths, the smoke starts to invade my senses,stinging my eyes and making be cough.Sirens ring percingly through the crackle of burning logs and branches.
Daylight brakes through,the fire dies off slowly behind me as I run, almost stumbling out of the burnt remains of the lush green forest to see Zara and Alfie by a large black van with tinted windows."Took you long enuagh" Alfie jokes,I give a half hearted laugh.
"Yeah, you try running through a burning forest" I say jokingly.
"Okay,that's enaugh you two get in the van"Zara says extremly seriously getting into the drivers seat while Alfie and me jump in the back.I put my bag on the floor and take off my singed jacket whilest Alfie and rests his head agenst the cool metal walls.
We drive for what seems like hours along dirt and rock covered back roads,then stop at a old, rickety, rundown house.
"Where are we" I ask confused,I get no answer.
Grabbing my heavy bag and singed jacket,I get out. My legs are cramped from sitting still for so long after running so far.My feet sting with blisters .Zara leads the way followed by Alfie and me to the door with its paint pealing and knocks loudly, twice.We all wait until a tall girl with wavy blond hair opens the door to us."Hello" she says smiling kindly "come on in",weary at her kindness I walk in.Not many people are kind or caring instead they will turn on you at any minute, unlike Zara and Alfie who have been my friends forever and have't changed even when everyone eles did. We walk from the hall into a dark,dingy lounge room where two people sit,cloaked in black,shadowy darkness.
