I looked below me and felt true peace. The water rushed past beneath me, strong and fast, making me feel so calm. For the first time in months I felt free: free of everything that had been clutering my mind over the year. The water was my escape, my freedom, my savior. I was ready to jump and let it engulf me.
My foot sliped a little off the side of the bridge and for a moment I actually felt a bit of fear. A small tug in my heart and my mind telling me not to do it, trying to convince me that everything will get better with time. I tell my heart to shut up...it was too late for that.
A tear sliped down my cheek, not from fear, but from anger. How dare they; they left me to do this alone. We had a deal. Everything was ok, we knew what needed to be done. And then they left me. I angrily wiped the tear away and looked down again with determination. I was ready.
I started to push off, my heart beating as fast as the water rushed by, until I heard voices faintly in the distance.
"Brookie!"
"Wait, please!"
"Stop, don't!"
You would think I would try to push off then, get away from the voices trying to stop me. I justed smiled. Happy tears formed in my eyes. Because those people weren't there to stop me. Amber and Hadly weren't there to save me.
They were there to join me.
