Dimples

Dennis saw her.

It was a typical day.

Well, as typical as it could get for them.

The sky was covered in thick, dark clouds. The rain was pouring just as the weather forecaster predicted last week. Seemingly endless showers, he had droned, making Hedwig cringe. The boy was not fond of storms.

Dennis was driving home, listening to the same weather forecaster, car full of groceries, and other needed items. Such needed items included flowers, as requested by Patricia. And the new Kanye West CD, as demanded by Hedwig.

He was finally finished with the errands, all the ridiculous running-abouts, all those requests for this and that, and on his way home ― and he saw her.

Dennis knew her.

They all did.

A coincidental run-in at Dr. Fletcher's office. They were quick to see her as one of their own, as with most of the good Doctor's patients. She was there for a reason . . . She was good, pure; made whole, made more in her trauma.

They had seen her leave, plenty of times, her waterfall of charcoal curls, her mane fell to the swell of her rear, streaks of gray catching in the light every so often, bouncing with each lithe step she took away from the building. Small, tiny, even; thin, slight..

They had never gotten to see her face. No, not even a the smallest glimpse of it ... until that run-in.

"Oh, I'm so sorry!" She gasped, reaching out to the man without a single thought. She was quick to ensure he wasn't going to fall right on over by wrapping her fingers around his wrists, pulling him towards her, as they jumbled about for a moment from their collision.

Jane had fluttered so quickly through Dr. Fletcher's door, high on a great session, and feeling good about herself and the world around her. Yes, it was certainly a great session. With this lightened mood, she hadn't even considered that there could have been someone on the other side of the door. She felt horrible, so careless, so rude!

"I'm all right, baby girl. No harm done!" Barry grinned unabashedly, eager to relieve the guilt that was so very obvious on her face. He had mirrored her actions, his own arms outreached, his gentle hands wrapping around her forearms; ensuring that she would not fall.

She finally looked up at him, hearing his voice, and quickly decided she liked it very much. He was so handsome, her breath had stuck in her throat.

He had flat chin, strong jawline, a lovely pair of lips. A light grey, knit beanie on his head, his ears untucked, his jacket was long and dark red, his pants form fitting but not overly tight and were tucked sloppily into dark boots.

Then she looked into his eyes, and he into hers. Bright silver and haunting blue met by coincidence, or perhaps, divine intervention. Either way, both were struck in a standstill.

And she smiled. Her full lips pulled pleasantly across straight, pearly whites, her eyes twinkled a bit brighter, and . .― dimples.

With that smile, Barry's chest seized tightly and his heart swelled far too big, he swore he was about to have a heart attack right there and then. He laughed, reveling in the sensation of butterflies filling up his stomach to the point he was going to burst any moment!
