I know, cringey, right? Oh well. This is reaaallly short. Enjoy...

Skulduggery didn't look back.

Valkyrie backed away to the wall and slid down it, face in her hands. Huge, racking sobs escaped her and she curled up. And then she heard his voice.

"There you go," he was saying. "One sacrifice."

She looked up. Erskine Ravel was gone from the floor, the Accelerator was slowing down and Skulduggery was standing in front of the Engineer. Her jaw dropped. She blinked and rubbed her eyes.

"The sacrifice must be willing, I'm afraid, Detective Pleasant," the Engineer said.

"It is," her partner responded. "I have willingly handed over the sacrifice. Whoever said the object being sacrificed had to be willing? What about me, the person doing the sacrificing? Do we not matter to you? Are we worthless?"

"Shut up," Valkyrie snapped at him from where she sat. "I'll deal with you later. He's right, even if he is acting like a twat."

She stood slowly.

"I have nothing to say about how you feel Detective Pleasant is acting. However, I do see the logic behind his claims. There is nothing programmed against the will being of another person."

"So you can shut it down?" Valkyrie asked.

"I can."

Valkyrie watched as the light got brighter and brighter, and as Ravel stiffened, dropped and then disappeared. Then the light cut out.

Skulduggery turned. Walked up to her. Tilted his head.

"You," she said. "Are an absolute fucker."

"Sorry."

"Oh. What's that? You're apologizing? It must be a miracle."

"It's not a miracle," he responded. "I just feel bad."

"What for?" she challenged.

"For making you believe I was going to leave you. That would've been a tragedy, considering you're completely incompetent never mind lonely without-"

She glared. "Shut up."

"Sorry."

"Stop saying sorry. It's stupid. You taught me that."

"I did. Mainly so I wouldn't need to apologize every time I mess up which, I suppose,is a lot."

She raised an eyebrow but he said nothing more. "So what now?"

"What do you mean, what now?"

"I mean I have two things on my mind that I want to do and I can't decide."

"Well what are they?"

"The first," she said, slowly, "is this." She hit him, hard. It hurt but he stumbled and she smiled slightly.

"Fair enough," he said. "It seems you've already decided."

"No," she snapped back. "No, I want to do both."

"And the second option was...?"

She stepped forward, unbuttoned his shirt collar and tapped the symbols etched into his collarbone. The face flowed up, and she looked at him and kissed him.

"That," she said.

Skulduggery's fake face was flushed and judging by the heat in her face her's was too. She glared at him.

"There," she said. "I did it. Boom, let's go."

He looked at her. "That's it? We're going?"

She glowered. "Yes. We're going," she said. She softened her tone. "We don't need to talk about it."

"I don't want to go," he said. "I didn't even get a chance to kiss you back."

She frowned, but stuck her hands on her hips. "So why don't you shut the hell up and do it?"

Skulduggery took one of her hands, and pulled her closer. "But of course, dear," he said, and she grinned and leaned in and he kissed her again.
