"MOM DAD STOP!" Lexie yelled across the room as her parents shouted at each other. Bad choice because her father started to walk towards her.
He'd never hit me right? Lexie thought to herself. She couldn't move. it was as if her feet were glued to the wood floor beneath her.
Her dad stopped right in front of her and shook his head. The next thing she knew she was falling. Her mother screaming in the background. Her jaw stinging. Then everything went black.
As she started to wake the stinging feeling in her jaw came back and so did the memory of what just happened. She looked around at the small, alcohol infested apartment and locked her eyes on her limp mother lying on the floor. Both arms badly bruised and her head was bleeding. Lexie rushed over to the other side of the room as fast as her pounding head would allow.
She checked for a pulse and found that her mothers heart beat was regular. That was a relief. She quickly ran to her rundown room to get her phone. She dialed 9-1-1 and listened to it ring.
"911 what's your emergency?" The lady on the other end said calmly.
"My mom is unconscious and hurt!" Lexie managed to say realizing that she was on the verge of tears.
"Sweetie did you check for a pulse?"
"Yes and her heart beat is regular."
"Ok where are you?"
Lexie gave her the address to their shitty apartment.
"Thank you. An ambulance is on its way."
"T-thank you" Lexie hung up the phone and hugged her mother while bursting in to silent tears in fear of her father waking up from his drunk slumber.
Five minuets later bright flashing lights appeared in the cloudy window.
Two paramedics walked in with a stretcher and picked Lexie's mother up onto it, freeing her weak grip. Lexie's father stormed in the room. "WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON!" He shouted as two police officers walked in. They pulled out handcuffs and struggled to hold him down. One officer asked Lexie some questions about what happened. She explained. As her father was put under arrest Lexie got in the ambulance with her mother and they rode off the the hospital.
