MERCY'S POV
I tapped my black Bic pen on my empty lined paper. Dim light crept through the classroom's blinds, and supplied very little light for the silent room. Mr. Shempire, the chemistry teacher, projected our notes onto the smart board. While I was supposed to be jotting down the words that didn't really make sense to me, I trailed off in thought about Dylan, my crush. Dylan wasn't really the "smart" type, he was pretty dull, but his personality and looks were phenomenal! He was a little shorter than the other guys in the grade, he had dark skin, being Puerto Rican, beautiful green eyes, and black curly hair. Many musicals did him and I share, we were even Young Nala and Young Simba in The Lion King Jr., our middle school production in 7th grade. Enough about Dylan, let's get to know me. I'm Mercy Rain, one of the most popular girls in the 11th grade. I have shoulder-length dirty blonde hair, sky-blue eyes, and light skin. My daily outfits range, a lot. Yesterday I wore a school sweatshirt, cheap Target leggings, black Nike socks, and Nike slides. Today I'm wearing brown gladiator sandals, a red patterned romper from American Eagle, and I have my hair straightened. I've been playing on the school soccer team forever, I participate in choir, I star in the musicals, but I dropped field hockey due to time. Suddenly the silence of the room was broken by the loud ringing of the 8th period bell, and I stood up with my bag to travel over to my final class, choir.
I travelled through the halls, hearing only the sounds of the buzzing lights, and the piercing conversations of fellow students. Slamming my shoes against the staircase, I travelled to the first floor of Mount Dora High School. Mount Dora was a fairly small town, with a population of roughly 13,000. As my legs gained momentum, I finally reached choir class with my oh-so-favorite choir director, Miss Carlton. While I loved singing, Miss Carlton was not the woman who I wanted to help me with it. She was a young director, and even though she was sweet, she was too new to teaching choir, and she seemed frantic. Her voice was pure and melodic as she warmed our voices up by playing chords on the piano while we sang the apreggio with the words "do-mi-so-do-so-mi-do." Starting to drift away from the warm-ups, I searched the baritone section for Dylan, but to my confusion, he wasn't in class. I suddenly felt a rush of energy, as Miss Carlton let out her highest note to see which sopranos could sing that high. A giggle crept from me as most of the sopranos failed, but one of the few able to hit the note was Bailey Shire. Her twin, Priscilla, and I are, what some might say, best friends. Bailey's voice is impressive and she always gets the soprano solos, which doesn't bother me, considering I'm an alto. We sang through one of our songs, "Route 66," which was one of my favorites, and Miss Carlton helped out each part individually. Once everyone's memory was refreshed, we tried to sing the three-part harmony, which included baritone, alto, and soprano. As always, the baritones lost their part and began to sing the soprano part. This happens every god damn time. It pisses me off, but you get used to it. Once the final bell interrupted our singing, Miss Carlton let us free to enjoy Spring Break.
