Sam ran into her bedroom and slammed the door. She hid her head in her pillow, and screamed. She was sick of it. The yelling, the drugs, the excessive drinking. The boyfriends. The current one was Jake. He hadn't been the worst. The most he had done was corner her and try to kiss her. But that had changed. She sat up, letting the tears roll freely down her pale washed out cheeks. Her face was expressionless, blank. She rolled over and slid off her bed, sliding her feet into her vans, before heading out of the door. She ignored her mom's loud laughs coming from her bedroom, and slammed the front door behind her. She stormed down the path, and headed for Carly's. Maybe she could help? But on her way, she saw the local convenience store. She played with the ten dollar bill in her hand and bit her lip. She knew she was underage. But she knew the owner, and he knew she usually went in for stuff for her mom, so surely he wouldn't question her? She pushed through the door, hearing the bell clang above her. She gave a small smile to the guy behind the counter and made for the alcohol aisle. She grabbed a 750ml bottle of Smirnoff from the shelf, and walked to the counter. She slammed the money on the counter, and mumbled something about her mom. The guy nodded and took the note, and Sam walked out of the door. She kept walking towards Carly's, but just before she got there, she went into the park. She sat on one of the benches and twisted the cap off the bottle. She held it to her lips, before tipping it back and swallowing a huge mouthful. She coughed and spluttered at the burning sensation in her throat. It had been a really long time. When the sensation died down, she smiled a little and took another swig. It felt good. Really good. She kept on like that, taking large gulps, before the bottle was empty. She examined the empty bottle, swinging it back and forth. She let go, and listened to the crash as the bottle shattered. Sam jumped off the bench, and began to walk home. She felt the alcohol begin to take it's toll on her, and she closed her eyes. She laughed, and opened them again. She could handle more than this. So she walked determinedly home, and through the front door. She yelled for her mom or Jake, and no reply came. So they were either passed out in their room or out. Either way, the coast was clear for another hour at least. Walking into the kitchen, she bypassed the fridge, and made straight for the cabinet in the corner. She opened it, wincing when it creaked. Checking to see if her mom had heard her, she stepped back from the cabinet, taking a half empty bottle of Smirnoff with her. It wasn't the best stuff but it was alright. And it was all she could get right now, so why not? She closed the door quietly and snuck back to her room, kicking her sneakers off at the door to her room. Her room was her haven. It was so, Sam. Dark blue walls clashed with the bright red carpet, a huge light up 'S' on her wall. License plates from her moms multiple boyfriends littered the walls, and a huge blue beanbag lay on the floor, concealing her secret diary. Not even Carly knew about it. Sam's bed was a small double, blue bed sheets and a red blanket hanging off the end. IT wasn't made yet, and she didn't plan on it. Sam stepped over her beanbag, jumped on her bed and unscrewed the cap off the bottle she held. She chugged it, feeling the relief spread through her body as the liquid poured down her throat. She drank the last few drops, and then lay back on her bed. She stared at the ceiling, events of the day replaying in her head.

*Flashback*

Sam hummed along to the music on her speakers, drumming her heels on the ground. She was flicking through her diary, re-reading her favourite entries. She was in a good mood, god knows why, but she was. Then he arrived. Jake stormed through the front door, slamming it behind him .Sam gulped, and pressed pause on her music. Jake appeared at her bedroom door, reeking of alcohol. He leered at her, and she fought the urge to retch as he gave her a once-over. She smiled innocently at him, fighting the part of her that wanted to yell at him to go away. But she knew that would only result in another beating. So she pushed it down into her gut, refusing to let it surface. Jake took a step forward, and Sam looked up at him, trying to hide the fear that threatened to show. Glancing around her room, Sam tried not to look at the hideous creature before her, tried not to scream, tried not to shake. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. He was next to her now, and she stood up so they were nearly at eye level. But Jake was bigger, and stronger than she was. She didn't have the sort of strength she normally had, not around Jake. He made her nervous, scared. It sapped the strength out of her, made her feel weak. She knew what was coming, and she was terrified of what might happen when it did. Jake grinned at her, showing off his cracked teeth. Sam grimaced and smiled back shakily for fear of what would happen if she didn't. "Samantha. I was wondering if you could do something for me. Your mother is other wise occupied for the time being, but I am in need of some, distraction. And I think you can provide it. Am I correct?" Sam gulped and held back the tears. She could see his gun tucked into his belt, so she dared not run, or fight back. She simply went limp as he steered her towards the living room, laid her down on the couch and proceeded to unbuckle his belt. Sam shook slightly as his gnarled old fingers undid the buttons on her jeans and slid them over her hips. Sam looked at the window and tried to think of other things. She winced as she felt him between her legs, but stayed focused on the window. She refused to let him see her cry. An old man walked past the window, with an old chocolate labrador. Sam's eyes softened as the colour filled her mind. A tear slid down her cheek. Chocolate brown. Eyes. Home. Freddie. Love. That's what that colour did for her. And it gave her strength. She wiped away the single tear that had fallen, and pushed Jake of of her. She yanked up her jeans and ran through to her mom's room. "I'm sick of this mom. You cant keep letting them do this to me! I'm sixteen for god's sake, and I've had enough. I don't deserve to be treated like this." Pam watched from the corner, and amused look plastered on her face. Jake came thundering in to the room, and smirked when he saw Pam smoking a cigarette in the corner, while Sam stood in the middle of the room, arms crossed, cheeks flushed. "Slut." With that one word, Sam snapped. Her face went white, arms fell by her side, and she stared at her mother in disbelief. "What?" she asked softly. "I said, Slut. Because you are one. You sleep with all my boyfriends, because your a selfish bitch who doesn't deserve a family. I don't know what that Freddie boy ever saw in you. You're a whore. He was an ugly bastard anyway, but you can't do any better, can you." At that, Sam yelled: " Don't you dare speak about Freddie like that! He's the greatest thing that ever happened to me, and you're right. I don't deserve him, he deserves a thousand times better than me, but you know what? I don't care. Because I have him, and I have Carly, and they're all I need. I don't need you, I don't need Mel, in fact, I don't need anyone! Not even Carly and Freddie." Pam stared at her daughter, and smirked. "If only you were smart enough to get a scholarship at that goddamn school. Then I wouldn't have to put up with you, and I wouldn't have to share my boyfriends." Sam gasped at that, and ran out of the room. She was done. This was too much.
