Miro's Adventures in Wonderland

Preface

The story of "Alice in Wonderland" has always fascinated me.  I have watched more iterations of it than I can fully remember, and even the ones I thought poorly done still had a certain magic to them that made the experience palatable.  It was only just recently that I took the time to read the source material, and my only disappointment was that I had not done so sooner.  No production can really hold a candle to Lewis Carroll's writing.  There's a charmingly playful personality to his words that the retellings don't quite seem to capture; ironically, some of the most verbatim amongst them having gotten furthest off the mark in essence.  However, though I have some vague awareness of the qualities these alternate versions lack, I wouldn't dare claim to do the story any more justice.

Rather than a reinterpretation, my original intent with this story was to adopt a universe both well-known and loved by members of my roleplay group from Gaia Online to enliven our collective writing, as many of us were becoming creatively fatigued.  After all, putting our own spin on a set path would be much simpler than trying to blaze a new trail, plus we had begun to take ourselves far too seriously.  The whimsical nature of "Alice in Wonderland" would be a nice change of pace.  It appeared to work in generating interest, but I had put myself in the position to lead the story along and I'm a terrible procrastinator.  It was inevitable that their patience would eventually run out and the weariness of trying to write without prompts (amongst other complications) gradually had everyone going their separate ways.

Despite this, I never completely forsook the idea of breathing life into this plan as I loved the idea of it too much to let it go, though it seemed unattainable with all the other members having given up on writing in favor of other outlets and means of passing the time, if they even had the time to spare in the first place with how busy their lives had also become.   My only choice, or so I thought, was to wait and see if I could possibly bring them back together at some later date when their schedules cleared and the passion for writing crept back into their hearts.  It seemed only fair that I be made to wait as I had made them wait.  But a saint, I am not.

The desire to write continued to return to me in waves and I could only allow it to ebb unheeded for so long.  Though I tried to channel it into other stories I similarly had stashed away in the confines of my mind, I often longed to work on this.  One day I decided that, if this is what I truly want, then it is what I will do.  And to my surprise, after writing the first chapter myself and posting it here, I soon had members of my roleplay group contacting me to let me know that they were still interested.

I hadn't planned on this being a group project when I decided to post my progress here on Wattpad, but thankfully I had this preface to be able to give credit where credit is due (via their Gaia Online usernames) to the other members of my group who have been co-writing through roleplay.
