 Chapter 1

I laid down in the grass, the sun filtering down on me, making my skin glimmer softly. I heard arguing from inside the house, something about how satin was better than silk-it was obviously between Rose and Alice. They both heaved an angry sigh and stormed off in different directions.

“Oh, babe, come on!” I heard Emmett groan and follow Rose. “It’s just fabric!”

“Just fabric?” Rose and Alice gasped in unison.

“Isn’t it?” Emmett questioned, slightly panicky and confused.

Silence followed, the only sound behind storming footsteps and the slam of a door as someone stepped outside and walked towards me.

“Calm down, Emmett.” I opened my eyes to see the burly, black-haired man standing over me, arms crossed while he fumed.

“But, it’s just fabric!” He exclaimed.

“I don’t know why you’re upset; it’s Alice and Rose who had the argument.” I sat up, cross-legged as I looked up at him then gestured for him to sit beside me.

“Yeah, I know.” He sighed, flopping down onto the grass. “Girls are so weird.” He muttered.

I laughed at that. “Gee, thanks, Em.”

“You know what I mean,” he chuckled.

I could tell he was still a bit upset. “Hey Em,” I whispered, capturing his attention.

“Mm?”

“How about we go prank someone? Edward or Jasper, maybe?”

A grin spread across his face. “Sure thing. I say Edward, while his in his ‘piano-playing-mode’.”

I nodded. “Agreed. What’ll we do?”

“Water balloon? Paint bomb?” he suggested.

“No, that’s too predictable.”

“Yeah, I guess you’re right. But then again, he’d never expect you to be predictable.” Emmett raised his eyebrows as he spoke the utter truth.

“You’re right. Let’s do it!”

Edward was playing a lovely little tune; his fingers flying over the keys, his eyes slid shut in concentration.

Emmett and I were hiding behind the wall, paint bombs in how arms. I gestured for Emmett to follow me into the room, so we stood right behind him.

“Hey Eddy, think fast,” I whispered in his ear as we smashed the balloons into the back of his head, covering him in bright pink paint, which we chose just to make him look a tad more feminine.

“Argh!” He growled, jumping up, making the bench he sat on fall back onto the tiles. “Goddamn it Emmett!”

“Hey, Anya thought of it!” Em gestured to me.

“Thanks, Emmett.” I said sarcastically.

“Anya!” Edward sighed, flicking paint from his arms and fingers and hair.

I couldn’t stop laughing, it was uncontrollable. I covered my mouth with my hand and gave a huge belly laugh, the contagious kind. Emmett and Edward slowly began to join in, until we were all sore in the sides.

“We got you so good!” I cackled between laughter outbursts.

“Yes, Anya, you did.” Edward ruffled my hair as I ran down stairs, grabbed a wet cloth and threw it at Edward, who caught it in the air with one hand and began wiping down his piano keys and floor tiles.

"Ah, sorry, Ed." I sighed bliffsully, still giggling slightly as I left the room, leaving Emmett behind with Edward.

"What are you so giggly about?" Jasper grinned softly as I came down the stairs.

"Paint-bombed Edward." I gave one last laugh before I flopped onto the couch beside Jazz.

"Sounds like fun," He laughed.

I nodded in agreement.

Carlisle came into the room, carrying a clipboard and dressed in his uniform. "Bye kids,"

"Bye, Carlisle." Jasper and I said in unison.

He left the room, leaving the soft hum of his car echoing in the garage as he drove away.

"So, where's Alice?"

Jasper rolled his eyes. "Her and Rose had another arguement about whether-"

"Silk is better than satin, and vice versa."

He nodded, rubbing his forehead in a stressed manner.

"Hey, don't worry, Jazz. They're girls, it's bound to happen."

"You're a girl and you don't fight with them. You fight with the guys." He glanced at me sideways, a grin paying at the corners of his lips.

"Ah, you guys are more fun," I admitted.

"I know."

I heard Emmett and Edward come running down the stairs. "Hey, we're going to hunt, want come?" Emmett asked.

"Sure," I stood. "You coming, Jazz?"

He seemed to consider it for a moment, then shrugged and joined me. "Yeah, why not?"

"Are you sure Alice and Rose won't kill eachother while we're gone?" I asked, half playfully, half seriously.

"Nah, Esme will rip 'em apart before they get to that stage." Emmett joked.

"Thanks for the comforter, Em." I said sarcastically.

"It's my job." He shrugged, then looked around him. "Well, what're we waiting for?"

"Yeah, let's go!"
