It sticks idly to the window,
a white, squishy, sticky body
painted with a black cartoon skeleton
smiling, frozen in time;
It hangs, an out of season decoration,
A reminder of happy halloweens of years past,
A cheerful representation of human remains,
remains forgotten for months.
It, however, does not forget,
it rests idly, waiting for it's prey;
They come, tiny black insects, attracted
Like children to candy
The trap closes, the insect's tiny
legs and wings stuck to the material,
left to slowly die surrounded by the
bodies of their fallen comrades;
For moths they are left to decompose
until nothing is left but broken wings
and empty shells, stuck to a skeleton
window decoration.
Time passes and the tiny black spots
on the otherwise white decoration
are noticed and washed away,
and promptly forgotten,
The skeleton is then replaced on the window,
the trap once again set;
Flat black eyes watching for it's prey,
how insignificant it seams.
We walk about the earth,
thinking it our home, but
unable to truly depart, stuck
until we die surrounded by so many bodies,
we place the bodies in the ground
with the other decomposing skeletons
and forget;
Insignificant
