He gave me a white rose dipped on sea green paint. He gave me a white rose everyday with a new color. As much as I hated to think that I made a mistake of letting Hayes go, I couldn't face him without realizing I still loved him. We were best friends before. But he had kissed another girl. Not a fan but another girl. The worst part was that this girl was my twin sister Skylar. Hayes didn't know much about her because we stopped talking when she moved to Canada. She had run into him at a party and pretended to be me. I heard about it from Nash and Hayes was trying to deny the fact that he wasn't going to tell me when I asked him about it.
He usually begged me to forgive him; and I did; but today instead of fighting me, pleading for me to just be friends again, he walked away as a single tear fell down my cheek.
"Hayes?" I called. He turned around to face me as I ran up to him. He held me like I would him when he got home from tour.
"I'm so sorry." He whispered in my ear.
"I love you. I never stopped thinking about us. I thought I had made a mistake for letting you go. I learned that I could truly never stop loving you." I cried as he held me tighter.
"I never once stopped wishing I could hear you say that to me." He responded.
I asked him if we could go to his house and see the horses (he lived in a farm) since I hadn't been there in a while.
He picked me up bridal style as we headed to the Grier home considering we only lived 10 minutes away from each other by walking.
"Do you want me to hop on your back so arms don't fall off?" I asked. We were only 2 years and 9 days apart; him the older of us but our parents said we were in love so it was okay. They would've made us wait if we were like 3 years apart.
"Sure but you're walking at some point!" He laughed.
"I suppose!" I sighed sarcastically.
We reached his driveway and I hopped off his back as we heard the sound of a dirt bike approaching us.
Nash stopped next to us and took off his helmet. "What are you doing here?! I didn't think I'd see you again!" He smiled a huge smile before speaking again. "I'd give you a hug but I'm kinda dirty."
"I can see that!" I giggled at how he pointed out the obvious.
"Jade and I are back together." Hayes announced.
Nash was staring at us; eyes wide, jaw dropping. He gave me a look asking if he had just heard his brother correctly. I gave him a small smile saying 'yeah! It's true!' trying to stop myself from blushing.
"Well fantastic! I'm glad you guys are okay! I thought you guys were perfect together. Even as kids I thought you guys would grow up to be a couple." He revealed. We all laughed and started walking to the house.
"I'm just gonna go and grab different shoes if we're going into the barn. You can go and see Rocky if you want." Rocky was a Quarter-Painted horse I always rode when we hung out. I always referred to him as 'mine' because I took care of him the most. I also always talked to him growing up as kids ( don't ask! I know it's weird).
Hayes came out a few minutes later to find me in the barn already grooming Rocky.
"What all needs to be done?"
"Besides the hooves, saddle." I said coming around by Hayes.
"I'll start on the hooves." He said grabbing a pick.
"Have you seriously forgotten?! You know I love cleaning the hooves!" I spoke with disbelief.
"Sorry! It's been a while, ya know?"
"I'm just messing with you! But yeah it has. Remember when we were younger and you were trying to get Rocky to trot?" I giggled.
"And by that you mean when I had discovered that one of my own horses would no longer listen to me? Yeah that was kinda funny." He chuckled.
"Kinda?! That was hilarious and you know it!" I said looking into mesmerizing ice blue eyes as he looked into my pale green eyes.
"Jade you know I would never hurt you, right?" He asked as tears formed in his eyes causing me to look away. He forced me to look at him by placing each of his hands on my cheeks. I started crying as I saw his tears, retreating my hands to inside the sleeves of my sweater.
"I mean it! I can't live without you." He said with a raspy voice.
"It's true! He was a complete and total mess on your guys' break." Nash laughed.
"Really?! Who even invited you here?!" Hayes asked casting Nash a spiteful look.
"It's our house in case you didn't know that! And yes, really." Nash responded a bit coldly.
"Well at least I don't feel so bad now for being an actual 'train wreck' as my mom said." I forced a light laugh at the end so it wouldn't sound like I was embarrassed; and believe me, I was extremely embarrassed.
"Really?! You never let anything bother you without putting up a good fight giving you the advantage." Hayes said.
"Well, you're my best friend, and I never thought you could have hurt me so bad because my sister played you." I confessed.
"But I did. And I will never forgive myself." He said walking away from me.
I looked at Nash who came to my rescue.
"Dude, her sister is the one who should be apologizing as much as you have. You're the one who got played."
"Hayes, he's right! I'm just glad that you and I were able to work things out unlike everybody else in my life! My mom left to go and live Skylar. She said I should have told you about here or at least more than I did, but I was afraid that you'd like her more than me because she's just like you; she's more adventurous than I am! You won't have to convince her to hold your hand as you jump off a cliff. She'll do it as soon as you say 'we should jump off a cliff into the ocean' she won't beg to go back or hold onto your hand and arm so tight it cuts off all circulation!" I cried as my legs started to give out.
"But that's what I love about you! I have to push you! I've always loved you and all of your quirks!" Hayes revealed as he hugged me just in time because my legs collapsed from underneath me.
