Just as I was applying the finishing touches to my hair I heard James' car pull up into the driveway. One last look in the mirror before I sped downstairs and opened the front door to be greeted with his breathtaking smile.

"Good morning sunshine!" He said whilst planting a kiss on my cheek. I smiled back at him as we walked into the lounge and turned the TV on.

"Do you want anything to drink, Jems?" I asked as he made himself at home as usual.

"I'd love a smoothie, if that's alright?" He chuckled to himself. I walked into the kitchen and started to prepare the berry smoothies.

As I was washing the fruit, the sweet sound of his voice travelled down the hall. He had told me the other day that the band were opening for Taylor Swift at her London shows so I think he is learning some of her songs to whisk her off her feet. We have been together for 5 months, but have been best friends for at least 14 years. Sometimes I feel like an annoying friend preventing a destined relationship.

Once I had added crushed ice, I carried the 2 smoothies into the lounge where James had his guitar resting on his knee.

"Mmm that's beautiful, just like you." He winked after taking a sip. I laughed, my cheeks turning pink. We sat quietly watching some daytime TV show,  my head resting on his chest.

"So what were you playing earlier?" I asked placing my glass on the table.

"Red by Taylor", he said smiling,"Do want me to teach you?"

I nodded, got up and sat between his legs. His muscly arms hugged me from behind as I picked up the guitar.

Once I had learnt the basic chords, he started to join in at the chorus, his voice quiet and breathy. When he sung I drifted off into my own world where everything is perfect. His little chuckle pulled me away from my daydream back into reality where I realised that I had stopped playing. I blushed, my hair falling in front of my face. He brushed my long blonde locks away from my eyes and kissed my ear.

"You're so special Cicely, you'll never know how much you mean to me." He whispered.
