The glint caught her eye first. Then mine.
We looked at each other, recognition written on our faces. Another one. And out here? It was buried in such a way that you could see just its tiny, rounded ear. Easy to miss.
Running onto the ground, we began to dig. Mum was not going to be happy about my jeans when I got home, but I didn't care. And neither did Lana. I was glad we’d found these, for her sake. She threw dirt in every direction, clawing at it like an animal and grinning all the while. She somehow got her hands under it, prised it from the dirt and held it up like a trophy.

Lana looked at the little figurine, flipping it over with her fingers and studying it eagerly.
But suddenly she tensed and handed it to me. I was a bit surprised. One minute she was obsessed and the next, not?
Odd.
I tossed it in my hand, examining it for something startling. Shape, facials, the little heart on its foot. A replica. It was a copy in another colour.
I looked up at Lana. She was looking down, eyes wide.
"What are you…"
"Just...just follow me" she said worriedly.
So I did. Because I trusted her.
And I was curious.
