The wind plowed through the grass, flatting it with it's powerful arms. I look around the abandoned field to find only miles of flowers. The bright yellows seem to shine as they are bathed in sunlight. I suck in a deep breath, feeling the summer breeze shift. A small weight lays itself on my shoulder as a pair of strong arms wrap around my waist, pulling me close. I lay my head back, breathing in the sent of forest smoke and soap. I nuzzle my nose closer, leaning deeper into them, breathing happily.
"Heelllo. Seems like your happy to see me." I feel the rumble of him speaking, sending chills down my spine, despite the warm summer air.
"Shut up Kade." I whisper, laying my arms on top of his. His tighten around my waist, burying me in his hard chest. I pull my head up to see him staring at me. As soon as I catch his eye, he plants a tender kiss on my lips. When he pulls back I can only see a sea of coal looking back at me. A smile forms on my face, reflecting his.
"I love you, Kai. More than words can say. You know that, right?" His body stiffens as I turn around to face him completely.
"How could I not know. I love you too. More than you know." I reply, wrapping my arms around his neck, bringing him down for a hug. He complies by burying his head back into my collarbone and pulling me closer.
I wake up to an arm around my waist and a snoring Kade beside me. I shift to see if he'll wake up to me moving. He just threw his arm off me and rolled over. I roll my eyes and carefully pull the covers off me and let my feet fall to the floor. I set my feet on the firm hardwood and push myself up from the king sized mattress. I pad through the room and into the bathroom, closing and locking the door behind me. My deep brown curls are stringy with grease and dirt. I wrinkle my nose up and extend a curl to examine it. Disgusted, I let the stringy mess fall and I reach for my brush.
After I finished brushing it all out, I turn to the tub and start to run the hot water.
Once I was done washing my hair, I let the hot water run down my back and curve along my body. My thoughts wander around, going nowhere specific. I reach out and turn off the water, I open the door and grab my towel before stepping out on the cold tile. The cool air hits my face, sending an involuntary shiver down my neck. I pad myself dry, then twist my hair in the towel. I take out my make up and finish it up quickly, giving my eyes a thin layer of eyeliner and some light eye shadow.
I unroll my hair from the towel and brush it out before blow drying the thick curls. I look over at my reflection and nod my approval. My dark curls look nice next to my olive skin, my face full of freckles, giving my skin a darker look to it, finally my bright amber eyes pop with the little bit of eyeliner and gray eyeshadow.
I do a once over myself and once I finish, I grab the nob and pull open the door. I walk over to the closet and pick out a dark purple V neck with a white lace kami and a pair of skinny jeans. In my rush to get ready, I didn't notice that Kade had gotten out of bed until I smelt the sent of eggs and bacon come from the kitchen.
After picking some of my black and boots, I make my way to the kitchen. The navy blue walls lead my way to the kitchen where the smell came from. The walls split off and lead me to the living room. I follow the smell and find myself looking at Kade in an apron and shorts staring at the stove, completely focused on the eggs. I walk over to him and lay my elbows on his shoulders and look over them at the source of the smell.
"Good Morning. Is that breakfast?" My voice cracks a bit from not being used until now. Kade let's out a snort/laugh before nodding and flipping the two eggs.
"Yeah. I have the day off so I figured you would like a homemade breakfast, and not the convenient store crap you usually get." His voice vibrates me and I giggle a little. It was sweet. We had been apart for months due to work. The only time we got to spend time with each other was at night, and by the time night came, I was already ready to pass out or I was in a really shitty mood because of work.
"Okay, it's ready. Let's go sit down. What time do you have to be at work today?" I let go of his shoulders after giving him a peck on the cheek and went to sit at the dinning table.
"I don't have to be at work till 10 and I get off at 8. I was thinking that we could have a date night tonight if I'm not too tired." He sets the plate of food in front of me, me already drooling over it. He sits down and I dig into the delicious cooking.
I've always been a horrible cook. Kade on the other hand had the potential to be a top chef. Sadly he wasn't at all into the food business. His career seemed to suck him in before he learned he had a choice. He was born as a gangleader.
I was a cop. It seems odd to people that a cop and gangleader would be together but Kade wasn't the malicious killer his father and the rest of his family chalked him up to be. Me on the other hand, not to brag but I was in the top 3 officers. The other two were also male so it was intimidating at first, especially because there were very few female cops where we live. After a year or two I got pretty used to it and the guys did a lot to help with it too. They would tease me but not to make me feel inferior.
The sound of Kade talking snapped me out of my daze and I found myself staring at him. His gaze lands on me as he slowly stops talking and puts his fork down.
"Kai? You alright?" His voice pulling me out of the thoughts swirling around. I give him a weak smile as l feel limbs grow weak from his stare.
"Yeah, yeah I'm fine. Just got lost in thought. Sorry." My voice comes out weak, which was not what I intended it to do.
"You sure? You didn't seem to be listening to me at all." He said putting his fork down and looking at me fully.
"Yeah just thinking about some stuff. Don't worry it's nothing." I let my gaze lift to his and gave him a small smile.
"Okay, but if need something, anything, just talk to me. Alright?" His eyes seemed to soften with empathy.
"Alrighty. Thank you." I left my eyes to linger on his before I returned my attention to my food that was barely touched. Realizing that I was still starving, I dug into my expertly made food.
After breakfast and clean up, which I insisted that I did, I pulled on my formal uniform. It consisted if a black suit jacket with black slacks and dress shoes. Today was Thursday and also a celebration that was required that I attend.
It was a simple celebration of all the arrests and cases that had been put to a close in the past year. We over doubled the amount of close cases than of last year and the chief decided it was worth a party. I was being presented with the award that said I had put away the highest amount of crooks in the Jelkins area and I needed to look presentable.
Putting my hair in a high ponytail, I looked over my outfit. The dark purple v-neck went nicely with my jacket and slacks. I grabbed my keys from their place by the door and let the front door close behind me. Climbing into my BMW M3, I headed to the station.
