I sit at the cafe by the window at a small round maple wood table; my eyes glued down at my world map, pondering where to travel next.. "Miss would you like a refill?" I'm slightly startled by the waitress, but answer back calm and reserved.
"Uh, yes.. but hot coco please."
"No problem sweetie."
She comes back and fills my mug with warm hot coco topped with whip cream and cinnamon sugar on top.
"Thank you." She nods and leaves me be.
I sigh and take my mug into both hands and sink into my chair and decide to take a small break to take in my surroundings. I look outside and see the blue sky with fluffy white clouds pass by as people fill the sidewalks, and trolleys fill the streets.
I start to daydream about places I want to go..
Rome.. Spain.. Europe.. The Caribbean.. Paris! California! Colorado! Jam-
"Hey... I'm sorry.. this is probably really strange because you don't know me but... could I please borrow your phone to make a phone call?.." she looked as if she were about to cry, as she sniffled and bit her lip nervously, while taking a seat in front of me in the second chair.
Why would a beautiful Spanish brunette with kind brown eyes and such a soft voice be troubled? I thought..
"Sure,.. are you alright?."
She responded hesitantly, with a sob she's holding back under her breath
"I..I should be ok... hopefully.."
She takes my phone as I hand it to her and she immediately eagerly dials a couple numbers, but both go to dial tone.
"Shit..."
She puts her hands on the sides of her head; her hair covering her face. I lean my head down a little to try and see her face to comfort her. "Hey..." I talk to her in a soft voice as I touch her shoulder "what's wrong?.. Is there anything I could do to help?"
I talk with a reassuring half smile, and hopeful, sympathetic eyes, I take my hand off.
"My friends ditched me, my luggage got misplaced and stolen, and it had everything in it; my wallet, phone, clothes. Now I have no where to stay, and no way to get back."
I stayed silent as I look down at my hot coco with a determined and hopeful face for a minute trying to remember if I have any huge plans this week and if I can afford having another person in my house right now.
"I...I'm sorry to have disturbed you.."
she begins to get up from her seat, as she inches up for a second,
"wait."
I quick grip her arm a little so she will sit back down; she looks at me as she wipes a tear from her eye.
I put my arm down and put my purse on my shoulder as i hold my hot coco with both hands and look at her with a kind smile and speak with a soft voice.
"Listen.. I know what it's like to be in a place that your in right now.. I've been in a similar situation where I had no where to go; and I'd be more than happy to help you. I know I don't know you, but for what I can tell, you're a nice girl who just needs some help."
Her eyes widen and she looks confused yet surprised at the same time, with a hint of joy in her voice.
"Wait what're you saying?.. "
"I'm saying you can stay with me for a week or so until you find a job and can get back on your feet to get where you need to go."
I say with a wide smile
"W-wait no you can't do that all for me, you don't even know me!.."
"It's really no problem, it's only temporary and I wish I had an opportunity like this in the past.. trust me."
I end my statement with an awkward laugh but cut it off with a kind smile as I start to get up from my chair and adjust my bag on my shoulder as I grab my hot coco and keys.
"T-thank you so much!"
She hugged me so tight I felt almost as if my ribcage was about to break. I respond almost out of breath. "You're w-wel-come.."
After she lets me go I let out a laugh with a joyful smile, as she wipes her tears of joy and sadness all mixed together, she holds her hands together behind her embarrassedly from hugging me.
Heh. How cute. She's flustered.
"Anyways," I say with a cheeky smile and a light blush along my cheeks as I adjust my hair behind my ear before holding out my hand to her.
"I'm Kathryn, it's nice to meet you."
She shook my hand with still sad eyes but a hopeful smile,
"I'm Laura, nice to meet you too."
At this point as our eyes meet, I realize.. she's more than just a lost girl. Because now I've found her.
