December 1974
"Great. Another freezing, rainy day. No snow, although it's almost Christmas." I murmured to myself, as I was trying to get out of my warm, cosy bed and get ready for yet another day in London, the city I hate...strongly disliked. Don't get me wrong, it is a beautiful place, definitely, but for the past three weeks since I moved there, I felt anything but joyful.
I checked the clock on the wall above a weird little painting someone had to put there before I moved in , and as a result began racing around the apartment like a mad person. It was already 11.43 AM and I was supposed to be in the studio in seventeen minutes, all fresh and ready to work my arse off. The reason I moved out of a small Irish town, all the way to the big city in the first place was, well, let's say it was kind of like trying to win the lottery. Or at least, extremely similar. I was the lead guitarist and an occasional vocalist in an all-female band, trying to make a living out of it. Thinking of it alone put a tiny, sad smile on my face. What the heck were we thinking?
As I was standing in front of a huge mirror, I forgot about my situation for a few seconds. My short, and slightly curly dark hair was as messy as it could be and I had no plan to fix it. I quickly washed my pale face, that was covered in freckles and put on a floral button up, that once belonged to my brother, with a pair of overalls. I greatly sucked at 'how to follow the latest trends' and 'how to dress like a lady' stuff, which made my mother furious every once in a while, but I have never been really lady like, per se. Most people had me confused with a teenage boy, unless I made a little effort and put on some make up - which didn't happen very often.
I was raised in an upper middle class family, so I had the fortune to be able to at least try and follow my dreams of becoming a musician. My parents payed for a fairly big apartment in the city and had me covered until I was going to make some money. As thankful for my opportunities as I was, I still hated depending on my folks at the age of 22.
With my head floating somewhere high above the Earth, I finally managed to lock the door, find my bike and rush to the studio we were trying to record our first hit at.
As I walked in, it had already been twenty minutes past noon, so I didn't really expect anything, but exactly what I got.
Two annoyed faces, followed by a madly giggling redhead.
"Hi there, sleepy head. Any news?" she asked.
"News?" I raised my eyebrows.
"You know, the extraterrestrial situation that kept your Highness somewhere for such a long time?" she chuckled.
''Oh F-ck off." I laughed. "I'm sorry, I overslept."
"Very well," cried out a blonde girl, our lead singer, from the head of the room. "Shall we start?"
The redhead, my best friend and the beat-keeper of the band quickly agreed. "We shall. You ready over there, Jo?"
The bassist just nodded, and so we begun. Our music-making, or whatever you want to call it, I mean. We went on for at least two hours straight, so we ended up being rather satisfied.
Surprisingly it wasn't the hunger that made us put our work aside for a while. It was a random knock on the door, neither of us expected to hear.
"Is that you pulling another childish joke on us, Jo?" I chose my victim.
"Nein," she laughed, trying not to let go of her German roots, and raised her arms in defense. "I'm innocent, love."
Finally Sharon, the redhead, got up and opened the door to see a guy, probably in his late 20s, with shockingly curly hair. He was pretty cute, I could admit that much. The drummer, standing by the door likely shared my opinion, as she became f-ing flirty in no time.
"Hello there," she smiled, showing off her gorgeous smile. "how can I help you?"
The curly guy was noticeably impressed. "Hi, I'm Brian," he smiled. "Uh, we- we were...dammit, sorry."
Gosh, he totally fell for her. In the matter of seconds. Damn you, S.
"Let me try again." he laughed. "We- my band and I, were just practicing. Our studio is right next to your place,"
That huge place? Whoa. I thought. I swear, it was enormous. I checked out the guy again, but still had no clue who he could be. I just thought he had to be damn successful to own such a large studio. Little did I know.
"We heard you girls playing. You're rather good, I must admit." Oh, Rather good? Such a show-off.
"We were thinking- if you would like to join us and grab a lunch or something?" Oh god. That was just pathetic. I opened my mouth to politely turn down his stupid idea, but my flirty little friend was way too fast.
"We'd love to, Brian! Thank you so much! Right, girls?" at that point, her smile was so big I seriously wanted to knock some damn sense into her.
"Alright! See you in 15 minutes?" Brian asked. Excited little f-ck.
"We'll be there!" Sharon shouted, as he was leaving. "Aw, I'm sorry. He was so cute. We'll have a great time, c'mon!"
"Classic S." I laughed it off, as she was leaving us no choice, but to actually meet this luxurious groupie.
