Lily smiled up at Ace, her long blonde hair swayed in the wind. She shared little resemblance with her brother, Ace. For one, Ace had black hair. However, the one quality they had in common was their mother's soft blue eyes. A blue that resembled the color of a clear sky. After their mother passed away. All they had was each other. Their father had left them at a young age and they had no known relatives. They were alone. In despite of their condition Lily always made it her job to keep Ace happy. Her radiant smile could win a war. Lily was Ace's escape from the darkness. She was his light. One morning, however, Ace woke up to a loud thud in the kitchen. He sprinted out of his bed to find Lily there passed out on the floor. He called 911, the ambulance got there in only a few minutes. At the hospital he was asked questions about her:
"Has she been in a fight and gotten hurt?"
"Has she done drugs?"
Does she drink alcoholic beverages?"
Ace's answers to all of this were no. Lily would never do that. Never. It didn't make sense, why was this happening? He was terrified.
That's when a nurse took him into a separate room and handed him a box of tissues.
A doctor entered the room. She told him that he would need to sit down. Ace sat down.
"You are Lily's brother, correct?" She asked him.
Ace nodded.
"I'm so sorry, Lily has a brain tumor."
Ace just looked at the woman, confused.
"She..."-She took a breath-"Your sister only has a few minutes left to live..."
Ace felt heartbroken. A tear began to slide down his cheek, then came others.
"M-may I see her?" Ace stuttered.
"Yes." The doctor replied.
Ace speeded over to the room where Lily was. He hesitated at the door. It all felt like a nightmare. None of it felt real. Ace didn't want to believe it was real. Never the less, he slowly opened to door.
There she was. Ace's sister, dressed in a hospital gown. Her bright smile barely faded. She looked up at Ace grinning.
"Hello brother!" She greeted him.
"H-hi." He uttered. A tear came rolling down his left cheek, he looked down.
"Don't cry Ace." She said weakly.
"How could I not? How are you not?" His voice slightly rose.
"Lay down with me." She asked him. He did as told. He laid down on the other side of the hospital bed. Lily held his hand.
"How are you okay with this?!' He ordered.
"Ace,why would I cry? I have competed my purpose, I have become what I was meant to be. I may only be fifteen, but age doesn't matter. I am who I am. If I die, it's okay Ace. I'll always be here. Be happy for me, I get to see mother. I'm not crying because if I were to die right this second, I'd be smiling. I don't want your last memory of me to be of me suffering." She told him.
Ace stayed silent.
"Life is so short, Ace. Enjoy it for me. Please." She hugged him.
Ace hugged her, holding her close to him. Lily smiled. Ace began to feel Lily's heartbeat slow down.
"Lily?" He asked.
"I'm still here, Ace." She comforted him.
"Ace?"
"Yes?"
"I'll miss you..." Lily took her last breath, then closed her eyes. She was gone.
"Lily?!"
"Lily!!"
Ace began to sob. Lily was gone. She really was gone. Ace called for the doctors. Crying, he pleaded them to save her. The checked her pulse, it had stopped.
