Shattered Heart Pieces

I'm sifting through Shattered Heart Pieces,
Barehanded, somehow the pain never ceases.

If my heart were a glass
It would be shattered.
Slivers and fragments littering the grass
Whilst I, bruised and battered
Wander alone.

Perhaps I would keep my heart together,
Seeking to keep myself alive.
In wind and weather
I'll seek to thrive
Whilst burning in the bone.

I'll carry my shattered heart in a bag
Over my shoulder and with me forever.
My heavy fragmented heart I'll drag
Into the bountiful land of Never,
Of Never staying happy.

As I walk shards will drop, some large and some microcosmic.
I'll turn to pick up some but others I'll leave behind.
At this rate loss of heart is an epidemic
In this unromantic world of infidelity I cannot find.
What's worth my love and sappy

Ideas lost in the sky?
You don't love me that's fine but,
Why am I so shy?
I must have been some sort of nut,
To think I had any chance...

'Tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all' is what they say,
But what if you can't love and lose?
And in this bright new day,
I'll be able to choose
How to live again.

We've lost and loved, befriended and cried,
We've come closer than ever and drifted far apart,
Maybe this chapter of our lives hasn't died,
Maybe our friendship lives on like art,
Perhaps we can love again.

Things have changed, but it's good to know,
My shattered heart hasn't followed the crow.
