I planned ahead before I actually ran away. I left on my 16th birthday. I got transferred to a different school to continue my education. I packed a bag of clothes every day and took it to the house I was going to be staying at (before school) so I was late everyday for about two weeks. I checked public records for old people who were close to death to see where I could go. I found an old lady named Gladys Smith, who surprisingly took me in after I told her my story just as long as I promised to give her a good memorial when she passed, she knew the plan and helped me with it. I left my sister little notes in different places in my house, enough for her to figure out and enough to keep my drunken dad from finding them. I knew what was going to happen when I left, dad would fill my place of punching bag with Melanie. So, I left her notes, they eventually came together to say "on your 13th birthday, travel to a place that is named after a sweet treat (Carmel), go to the library, burn these little notes so dad can't find us, I'll see you then, love S". Her birthday's during the summer so I didn't need to worry about school for now. The school I transferred into was on a break, so I had a little time. Everything was so planned ahead that no one even questioned the fact I was gone. Gladys gave me all of her belongings as mine. We got to know each other for a good 6 months. Eventually she died of a heat stroke. I gave her an amazing funeral like I promised. I didn't go start my new school with my name being Sheila Porter, or my hair being beach blonde and long, or without piercings. So when I finally moved into Gladys's for good, I cut my hair really short an dyed it blue. I got piercings (lip, eyebrow, nose, septum, dimple and, monroe). I actually liked it. I also changed my named to Leslie Smith, Gladys's "great great-granddaughter). I was finally happy. It's been a little over a year now and it's almost my sisters birthday.
