Hopeless

chapter 1

"No!!!! Late again! She's going to kill me today!!" she said, all scared and tense because she was late again. She ran downstairs and called out for taxi.

" It's so fricking difficult to get a taxi in New York. Gotta catch the bus!" she rushed fast as her legs could carry since the next bus was was the last one to catch towards Albany.

She was panting due to exhaustion but the fact that she got on the bus made her smile.An old man standing beside her was mumbling something "mummmojhg." she tried to listen to him and started giggling when she realised what he was saying " When we were young, we used to walk towards everywhere, every day and youngsters today.....mnhyddtsxv"

" Hey Charlie!" said the conductor who was seated on one seat and his bag was resting on the other. "Hey Murphy!" she said as the man picked his bag up and offered her the seat and she took it. The conductor was a guy in his 40's or 50's with half grey hair and half black, with square spectacles and wrinkles with freckles. He had a constant smile on his face.  After one and half hour or so she reached Albany, got a Double shot coffee and a chocolate chunk muffin from Starbucks and ran towards her office, the Milnemo.

"Late again, congrats!" he patted her. "Stop it Frank or I'm going to kill you" she frowned and lowered her head in guilt. "Even though she's my best friend, she is a horrible boss" she said in a low tone "c'mon, it's not going to be that bad." He reassured her with a compassionate look in his eyes. When they reached the main office floor, he again reassured her and she left with sigh.

She kept the edibles on her desk and ran towards her boss' office. "Hello Charlie.  So what's today's excuse? The bus was too crowded so had to wait or I'll tell you a better one, what about 'so sorry ma'am I just lost all my files and stuff and it took me a lot of time"

She moved her fingers above her head as a gesture of satire with her chair still turned towards the big wall paper which said ' Late comers are the only one's welcome here', she got it customized because usually to sign files and other stuff she used to go 'round the office and keep a check on everyone. She was the worst but still the best boss ever.

" I woke up late" Charlie lowered her voice as she said this and then the big black chair turned " Honesty is all I ask for" she smirked and got up "Go now, drink your coffee and eat your chunky muffin" they both gave each other the ' you know me too well look' and giggled. Charlie turned and got back to her desk. She had the most beautiful best friend but the worst boss.   

Emily was a beautiful and powerful lady with the eye of an eagle. That's what everyone said. She never had any affairs though, always shooed the boys away with her satirical answers but one man got close to her, Marcus. Her ex was the only 'man' who could ever one-up her, although she didn't like those who tried to do so but Marcus played it well. When she realized that she wasn't the 'only girl in his life' she got up& instead of crying, she made her way through the crowd and slapped him hard and left laughing. She didn't care what everyone thought but she did know from that day, she was not just a business tycoon but was the very first female multimedia business tycoon in New York. Boys did not mean anything, unless they were those men whom she had to make business with.
