"Why do I feel so lonely" Robin questioned perched on one of the hammocks she and Charlie kept for travels.
She was on her and Charlie's bus, which he has dubbed "The Cloud Machine" because of how often it caught on fire. It was her home and she loved what they were doing, but sometimes she got homesick. Really homesick.
Charlie had already put away his hammock and it was his turn to drive. He asked not to be distracted, which she obliged, though she was somewhat annoyed. Robin would have to go behind the wheel in twenty minutes, at least that was something to quench her boredom. "Hey, one more stop before it's your turn" Charlie called to her "I'm getting some sea glass"
They were in Maine that day, ready to pick up a man named Larry. Robin and Charlie had been spending the past year giving hitchhikers and hobos rides wherever they needed to go, for a small fee. They started in their hometown, a small area in Michigan, where they advertised their service. After that, wherever they went, they did the same.
Robins parents were mechanic, and she followed in their footsteps with flying colors. She won the bus in a raffle at the local car dealership. The bus was old and crappy, but it became Robin and her best friend Charlie's pet project. Charlie was an artist, and the most recognition he had got was hanging an oil painting at a local cafe.
After they turned eighteen, Robin and Charlie  had nothing to do. Robins grades were too poor to get her into college, the time she should've spent studying was spent fixing up her bus. She wanted one last adventure. Charlie wanted to get into an art school, but he wasn't satisfied with his work. He craved inspiration.
The two schemed, and ended up deciding to travel the country for a year or two. The hitchhiker idea came later, when they realized they'd need gas and food money. They packed their bags, and their hammocks, (which they hooked to the ceiling when it was time for rest) and set off. It was the greatest adventure of their life.
