"Detective Jenson," said Chief Wogohan, "I have to explain quickly. We are deploying you in a carnival near the small town of Mistsnow. You are the best detective we have. Your case, is to... Alice and... for questioning..." At that last word, the screen went out. No connection.
Jenson, a 29 year old man, was the best detective the agency has. He has solved most of his 39 cases and only 3 people died. That's less than what Jhonathon has done. Jhonathon was competing with Jenson, but everyone knew that Jenson would win. The helicopter landed on some muddy dirt. It was a little drizzle of rain that was falling bits way to earth. Jenson hopped out and ran far from the helicopter. He waved goodbye at the pilot as the helicopter flew out of existence.
Jenson had one question on his mind as he headed towards a run down carnival. Who is this Alice girl? She had to be important for the agency, since Chief Wogohan's last words were "for questioning". Jenson stepped up to the entrance I the carnival. 10th Wonder Of The World read a sign at the entrance. Jenson walked under the sign and a big voice blared out.
"Welcome to the 10th Wonder Of The World," said an announcer through the speakers. "You have been the first to enter in a long time."
Jenson stared at a nearby speaker. How did this bodiless voice know about him? Or that the carnival hasn't been used in a while? Jenson moved his gaze to look around. He jumped at the sight of a tall man in dirty stripped pants, stained shirt with the carnival logo, and his skin was rotting away.
"Hello young sir," the ugly man said,"What's the special occasion?"
"I am Detective Jenson," Jenson pulled out a badge the agency gave him and showed it to the ugly man. "I was told about Alice. I will be on my way."
"Oh no sir," the speakers sounded,"you can't leave us. We haven't had dinner yet."
Jenson started to walk toward the Ferris Wheel. He stopped when a ghostly hand touched his shoe. He looked down to find another person rotting. This time a girl. She was in a dirt stained dress. Her dirty orange hair pulled up in a cute design, held by a torn, red bow.
"Shiny shoes," she said as she clawed at the black fabric around Jenson's foot. "Perfect for my cold feet."
Her curly hair fell over her face as she stared into the darkness of the shoe.
"Sir, you do not want to see the one you speak of," said the tall man, his voice faint, still coming from speakers nearby. "Oh, Susen, step away from this nice man." The girl let go of Jenson's shoe, stood up and stared into his eyes.
She had the eyes of an anime girl. Scars and dried blood covered her face. She looked at her feet, those were indeed the whitest shade of white. You could tell that those body parts were freezing just by looking at it.
"... So cold... Why can't you get shoes... for me... Chuck...?" said Susen in a soft, shaky voice. She wrapped her arms around herself and started to cry. Chuck was the tall mans name.
"Susen and Chuck," Jenson said. He wrote the names down on a pad that he keeps with him. "Interesting names."
"What's wrong with their names to make them... interesting?" Asked a man behind Jenson. He turned around to a surprise.
A short man with a top hat and a torn black suit. He held out a deck of cards and pulled one out. He turned that one card around and asked,"Jenson, right?"
"Yes, now I have to go," Jenson said, pushing this one man out of the way. Or was quiet easy, since this man was no skin and bones. He just had the bones.
"What about dinner...?" asked Susen. She stopped crying and started to crawl towards Jenson's shoes again. Jenson kicked her away, causing her to cry again. The skeleton punched Jenson in the jaw, hard enough to knock him out.
"You bonehead. You can't do that to a guest. Especially a fresh one," said the faint voice of Chuck. That was the last thing Jenson heard.
