My ---m Back

I got out of the car with my bag on my shoulder and my sweater in my hand. It was really hot outside. Girls were wearing short shorts and miniskirts while guys walked by lifting their t-shirts. There were kids sitting on the lawn outside the school, kids getting off the bus, people running to hug others. This really is the first day of school. I saw everyone even Kylie and Wyatt, but no Liam. I wasn’t sure if that was a good or bad thing. I mean I wanted to see him but I know that I'm stupid enough to ask him out and get rejected.

“Kaio!” I heard a female voice shout from behind me followed by the click clack of heels hitting the concrete. Before I could turn around two hands were covering my eyes. “Guess who.”

“I don’t know.” I played along. “Is it Kylie?”

“Yep” she shouted as she spun me around to hug me. There was something different about her, and I wasn’t the obvious like her tan or her high lights. I guess she just seemed more like a girl.

“Kaio did you miss me, I missed you. I wish you could have come. There were so many cute boys.”

“You wouldn’t have wanted me there I was a mess.”

“Holy crap.”  I know Kylie so well that every expression she’s ever made is etched in to my brain.  For example right now she’s making her I can’t believe it’s not butter face which is only used to say you’re not gonna believe this. I studied her eyes as they focused on something behind me. I prayed to god that it wasn’t Liam.

“Oh my goodness, you’re not going to believe who just got off the bus.”

“Who?” I ask acting like I don’t already know she’s going to say Liam, and sure enough it was him. I turned around to see him just as I guessed; only he’s doing the unexpected. He’s walking towards me.

“He’s coming over here!” Kylie was practically jumping up and down. You would’ve she had a crush on him or something.

“Hey.” I felt a warm breath climb in to my ear. “I haven’t seen you around this summer.”

“I’ve seen you.” I turned away trying not to make eye contact.

Liam looked different. His hair was shorter, his voice was deeper, and it looked like he’d been working out.

“Well why didn't you say anything? We could’ve hung out or something.” He was rocking back and forth as if he was nervous.

“Did you ask him!” his friend Aiden shouted as he walked toward us. He began shoving Liam closer to me.

“Oh” Liam Blushed. If you ever see Liam blush then you’ll be put in a trance because 1. He has the cutest blushing face ever, and 2. He only blushes around people he cares about.

He took my wrist and pulled me to a quieter part of the school lawn. By then his face was completely red and so was mine.

“I'm gay.” He whispered like I didn't already know.

“I know, what's your point?”

“Well My friends know now so we can get back together.”

HARD TO GET, HARD TO GET, HARD TO GET.

“What makes you think I want to get back together with you?”

“Well what did I do wrong?”

“Maybe I just don’t like you anymore.”

“Well that’s too bad since I still like you.” He held my wrist tighter like he didn't what me to go until I agreed to go out with him. I could hear his heart beating louder than mine.

“I-I still like you too.” I said turning away. He grew this big smile on his face like one he used when he won a video game. He would always say “it’s ok, even though I came in 1st place we both win since we’re on the same team.”  Just to make me feel better.

“Come to my house today ok? Everyone is going to ask you go to some back to school party but you should come to my house instead."

I have the most messed up schedule ever. Family class is first period with Liam, and gym Second period with Liam. Then I have math, science, English, and history alone. Then at last there's cooking and sex ED with Kylie. No classes with Wyatt, core classes alone, gym second period, and not enough classes with Liam.  This is going to be a long year.
