The frosted grass crunched beneath his feet as he was dragged rather aimlessly by his friends through the overgrown trail in his backwoods. It was quite pretty, the spring was that time of year. The boy being dragged squeaked as he struggled to keep up, "Thomas slow down!" The moon crept farther into the night sky, the ball of light a stark contrast against the dark, rich, velvet purple shades had consumed the delicate blue which had dominated the sky only hours ago. The trees overhead allowed gaps of starlight through to the ground, casting a rather eerie glow.
James buried his face in the neck of his light blue sweater. He couldn't stop Thomas, just follow. Thomas, however, was thrilled. It was the day. It was finally here. "Hurry up James!" He'd finally released the grip on James's sleeve before racing ahead and vanishing through a rather thick cluster of maple trees. Madison paused, wheezing and struggling to regain his breath before continuing onward slowly in the chilly night. Everything about tonight screamed beauty at him, from the delicately glazed grass blades to the trickling creek below the bridge they'd crossed earlier back. As they boy went on in pursuit of his friend, the sound of spring peepers grew louder, their chirping was hypnotizing. James made his way through the tangles of maples to stumble unexpectedly into a clearing, nearly falling into a pond if someone hadn't grabbed his hips and pulled him away from the edge. It was magnificent. The moon and stars reflected off the water's surface as if it were a mirror reflecting millions of diamonds. The two 7th graders were alone in the middle of the woods, Thomas grinning. "I told ya I got'cha a surprise!" James was completely dazed by the scene, it left him nothing less than dumbfounded. He'd never seen such a picturesque spot in his life. He was in a trance until he was rather unexpectedly drawn from it as Thomas planted a kiss on his cheek, pulling him closer. James blushed, and squeaked in surprise. What was Jefferson doing?
The rest of the night went on, Thomas holding James close the entire time, the midget an extreme contrast to his tall stature. The time went by as the two exchanged whispers, dancing on the breeze. The majority left James flustered, while the other few hitched Thomas's breath in his throat. "Hey James." He whispered. James was holding onto his arms like the bar on a roller coaster, leaning back against Jefferson. "Hm--" He couldn't even get out a complete response before being silenced by the other boy's lips. James was a bit startled, stumbling back into a tree as he and Thomas switched positions. He instinctively returned the gesture, the two just standing there kissing. James was the one who broke away. "I-I have to g-go..." he stuttered before making his way back through the tangle of maple trees, the short flustered boy vanishing in an instant to leave behind a shattered Thomas.
