I drove the car down pass the City Hall Park then turned right heading to Brooklyn –Carter's residence. My heart is pounding so wildly inside me, together with the tangled up strings of hundreds of questions inside my mind now but what matters the most is, "Where is Xander?" Being stood up in a wedding day is the last thing on my bucket list.
After 2 hours of driving, I realized that I'm still pumped up with my wedding gown as streaks of black eye liner stream down my cheeks. God, I look horrible. I parked a couple of blocks away from his pad and fixed myself. I need to look presentable in front of Mr. Sullivan Carter, Xander's only guardian left. I remembered the moment when he told me that marriage is sacred to him.
"Among all the girls that are crazy about you, why did you pick me Xander?"
I looked at him straightly in the eyes, trying to find the answer to this greatest question in mind. Well, basically he is the hottest man in our campus back when we are college and he is driven, talented and no other words could describe him – perfect. I just can't think for a reason to deserve such a blessing. Then, I felt him straighten up, held my hand tighter as his right hand caressed my cheeks.
"Liv, if only you could see what I can see in you then you'd realize. You're unlike all those other girls who are clothed with fancy stuff and other things that matters less. Your heart is pure and you only have those pair of eyes that could see right through me.
Babe, I can't think of any reason to deserve you but I am greatly overjoyed to have you in my arms like this. I love you, Olivia." My jaw literally dropped. I wasn't expecting those words from him –so sincere, so pure.
"When my mom left us for her other family, I swore to myself that I will never love again. She was my first love yet she left me broken without any explanations why she did that. Then you came, you erased all those tainted reasons to think love as a bad name. You gave it a new meaning Olivia and that what makes you different from any other girl. I want to be like this every single day, having you in my arms as I fall asleep at night and see your beautiful face in the morning. I can't imagine living without you babe. I'm glad you agreed to my proposal. You made me the happiest man alive. I swear I'll never leave you, never." He hugged me tightly as he falls back to the bed bringing my body together with him. I stared at his angelic sleeping face as I moved those stray hairs blocking his face. It's funny how I could love him even more each day.
"Where's that promise now Xander?" I wiped the single streak of tear.
Summoning my wits, I strode down the stone bricked patio of the Carter's and rung the door bell. In an instant the double doors swung open as the great scientist, Sullivan Carter, came out from the door.
"Olivia" His words brought chills unto my spine as if a cue that something bad is happening. He opened the door wider, encouraging me to enter. I fixed my eyes on the man before me; dark messy hair, thick rimmed glasses, and creased polo shirt. Sullivan has that evident pair of dark circles under his eyes justifying his lack of sleep.
"Do you want a coffee, tea, or –"
"Where's Alexander?" I watched the dance of emotions across his face and it hurt me to see the painful remorse.
