Olivia Thompson took a sip from the wine on hand and anticipated the heat of the alcohol brushing through her throat as the lights continue to dance before her eyes. It made her complexion glow even more as she lean her elbows on the terraces of her hotel suite. A mixture of emotions came across her mind.
"Tomorrow is your big day, Liv. Save your energy and earn some beauty sleep." She looked over to her 50-year old nanny whom she consider her second mother and gave a faint smile.
"Wedding jitters?" Eugenia questioned again. Olivia's muscles tightened a bit, caught off guard of the words the lady just said, it's as if she could read her mind. Olivia remained silent as she contemplates about the past happenings in her life. A fairytale wedding is every girl's dream as she imagine herself wearing the veil and the long white gown making her feel like she's the most beautiful girl in the world but –"What's with the doubt? What is wrong with you Liv?" she asked herself several times.
"I'll just finish my drink then, I'll head to bed." She said. The lady sighed.
"Just don't think too much, okay? Good night sweet heart." A loud thud echoed in the room as the door was shut. She, then, drank up her wine and placed the empty goblet to the sink absentmindedly.
An upbeat tone swung her away from her thoughts. Alexander sent her a message. She can't help but to smile.
"I know you know that I love you Liv –no matter what. Please trust me on this babe." Call her a paranoid girlfriend but still, she pressed the location button. On her surprise, Xander was not on his allotted hotel suite but the location is leading to his house. Olivia typed a reply hesitantly, "What's going on, Xander?"
However, he didn't reply even a single word. The weird text worsens the ruckus inside her head as she decided to erase her thoughts off and fall asleep.
The rays of the sun poked her eyes to wake up. The clock shows 6:00 am. Excitedly, she went to the bathroom and did her morning routine. Eventually, a slow knock on the door got her attention. Olivia then, fixed herself before opening it. A dashing guy emerged from the door who is wearing pink polo shirt and trousers as his false lashes bat too much distracting her from her thoughts.
"What's with the uncomfortable stare girl?" A small smile creeps on her face as she hugged her childhood friend who is now a makeup artist.
"Thank you for doing me a favor Ri. It means a lot." Olivia meant every word she said looking straightly to his eyes. His arms went to her waists and hugged her tighter.
"I will never miss your wedding day Liv. I'll do this for old times' sake and I'll make sure that Alexander's eyes would pop out when he sees you." They both shared a good laugh. Anybody would practically see them as a very sweet couple less than the gay aura of Henry. After all the chitchats, Henry then started his job.
The car engine roared to life as her legs became wobbly due to excessive nervousness. Who wouldn't be? It's her goddamned wedding day today and she wants everything to be perfect because she will be marrying the most perfect guy her eyes had ever lied upon.
The memory of his olive green eyes and his boyish smile lessen her anxiety. The car maneuvered left towards the fifth Madison Avenue to reach St. Patrick's Cathedral, the largest Catholic Church in the United States. Her heart was beating erratically as she step out of the bridal car. The gashes of wind ruined her hair but she won't care less as long as she will be marrying Alexander Carter, her boyfriend for 6 long years today.
Olivia smiled from ear to ear but she was puzzled with the commotion at the threshold of the church. A lady approached her.
"I hate to break this to you but Liv, Xander's not here yet." Eugenia nervously clasped her hands to Liv's now sweaty palms.
Blood left her face pale. Tears started to roll down her eyes.
"Did you try to contact him?" She's trying to suppress her loud sobs by trying to think positive things.
"Yes, but he's phone's out of reach. His parents weren't here as well." Olivia sat down at the pavement crying her eyes out.
Several hours have passed and the guests are slowly leaving like a fading dandelion on the field. The church which was once filled with promises only left pain on her memory. She can't believe Alexander stood her up.
"He loved me, I could feel it. I just need his explanation and I know it is reasonable enough to," Olivia was unable to finish her words as a new batch of fresh tears came out. Now she's being hysterical.
"How could he ditch me on our wedding day?! I thought he loved me enough." Her voice as soft as a whisper.
"He loved you very much Liv. Everyone could testify to that. Haven't you heard anything from him yesterday or this morning?" She looked straight to Eugenia's eyes, fishing on her lanes of memory for anything that could lead her to him then, she remembered Xander's house. Bingo!
"Eugenia, give me your keys." Her words as firm as her hope to find Xander in his house.
"What? –I" Unable to finish her sentence, Liv snapped at her.
"Give me the keys, NOW!" With no choice, the poor lady handed down her keys as Olivia drove the car fastly like a mad runaway bride.
She didn't care about the obvious stares from the street crowd; her mind is only clouded by the thought of Xander ditching her on her wedding day.
"That asshole should have a valid reason or else I'll fucking wring his neck." She hated being stood up, obviously.
"I am no damsel in distress!" Olivia exclaimed.
Little did she know that day was the start of something that could make her world go upside down.
