"Amber!" I heard a voice behind me call.
My friend Jade was making her way towards me, her fiery red curls bouncing on her shoulders.
"Hey, Jade!" I greeted her when she caught up with me.
"How you doin', bestie?" Jade smiled, her perfect white teeth gleaming. I had always hated her teeth. They made me feel bad every time I smiled.
"I'm fine. First soccer game today! You excited?" I was psyched. I was the captain of the soccer team at school, and I was super excited for the first game. At the beginning of the season, I had to mold my new recruits into the players that belonged on my team.
"Hell yeah, I am!" Jade pumped up her fist. She was one of the best players on the team.
I noticed a blonde haired girl approaching us. I rolled my eyes.
"Skank alert." I muttered. Rachel Edmon. The girl who has hated me for over 12 years. Why, you ask? I don't have a clue.
"Hey, Amber! How was your summer? Full of boys who rejected your ugly ass?" Rachel laughed, looking back at her two friends.
I chuckled. "At least my hair isn't fake. It's obvious that you dye it every year." I was a natural brunette. (Very thankful for my Latino heritage.) She had nothing to say to me - at least about my hair.
Rachel hesitated. "W-well at least I don't have to try to get a guy."
I laughed at that. "At least I haven't been knocked up so many times, that the ultrasound technicians know me on a first name basis."
With that, Rachel angrily flipped her hair, walking away.
"Damn, Amber! You burned her! Legit, burned her." Jade was stunned.
I shrugged it off. "It's what I do."
Me and Jade continued walking until we had to part ways. We said our goodbyes and parted ways. I punched in my locker combination and pulled on the lock, popping it off and opening the door. I had my backpack loaded with what I needed and relieved of what I didn't. I pressed my books to my chest and closed my locker, turning to go to my homeroom.
That's when I came face to face with him. Lukas Walter. Captain of the hockey team and "hottest" guy in school.
"Hey, cutie." He said. Lukas had this stupid smirk on his face, like I wanted to have my day interrupted.
I gave him a brief nod and smiled. "Lukas. How are you?"
"Good," he said, taking a step closer to me. He put a hand on either side of me, almost having me pinned to the wall.
"What are you doing?" Whatever frat boy act he was pulling, wasn't going to work on me.
"You sound scared." I could feel his breath on my ear.
I scoffed. "As if," I ducked under one of his arms leaving him leaning against the wall, face first.
"Oh, by the way, are you coming to the party tonight?" I smiled at him.
"Yeah," he replied. He was staring at me.
"Can you quit looking at me? It's kinda creepy."
"What?" Lukas sounded like he hadn't realized. "Oh, shit. Sorry."
Was it just me, or was he blushing?
"Bye, Lukas."
"How do you know my name?" Lukas seemed confused. He never had told me his name before. It wasn't exactly like he need to.
"Word gets around," I answered.
He had a smirk on his face. "Oh... I'm a bit popular aren't I?"
"I guess," I turned to leave, making sure to sway my hips until I turned the corner. I wanted to leave him wanting more.
It's one of my things with guys. I want to leave them staring at where I was, long after I was gone.
