It all started with mix-it-up day. For those of you who do not know what a mix-it-up day is, it is the day where you come to school as the truest form of yourself--unless you are popular, then you wear a onsie, tutu, colorful dots around your eyes and pretend like you actually care about the other people in your school--and the whole day is full of getting down to the deepest parts of who everyone is and revealing everything about them, it is all very depressing and it usually ends in tears for most people. This year, I was lucky enough to be in a group with my very close friend, Daniel, and unfortunate enough to also be stuck with not only one, but two of the worst people in my school--enter Jayson Williams Rhodes and Rylan Lea Michaels, walking down a catwalk, in the wind, with perfect hair, and Gucci clothes. Just my luck, right? It was our, mine and Daniel's, sophomore year, so we knew the drill for the day. It was extremely easy really the schedule should literally be: talk, tears, time to go home. But of course people never find that amusing enough so at the end of Mix-It-Up day, you go to your last hour class and have to write a note to someone, anyone you want. Me, being your stereotypical teenage girl, I wrote mine to the biggest heartthrob in school and my personal crush, Kamden Jackson Rhodes; and yes, he is related to Jayson, unfortunately. Kamdan and Jayson are brothers, Jayson is the oldest one left at our school, the Rhodes family is quite extensive, I'm still not entirely sure about how many people are in their family, it's been confirmed 7 or more, not including their parents. I have found that there is an amount greater than or equal to 3 sisters--the oldest of which graduated last year--and greater or equal to 4 brothers. The craziest part about this entire family, they all have the same face. I am not joking, all of them have the same face; at first, I thought that Kamden and Jayson were twins that was until I also saw their older sister, their younger sister, and their younger brother. They are very evidently siblings, but they are all popular so it really isn't in my best interest to get to know really any of them.
Popularity is a dangerous game that I am not going to get involved in, I am perfectly content with sitting in a secluded corner with a mountain of books hiding me from the rest of the world. No, I am not emo if that is what you are thinking, I just hate the reset of humanity and do not want to be around them. Okay, maybe I am. Anyways, as I said, this was Mix-It-Up day, there were tears, emotions were running high, it was like an entire school of PMSing girls watching The Notebook--or in my case, Snape's death scene in Harry Potter followed by his memories of Lily Evans-Potter. I had been thrust in a group with Daniel, Jayson, Rylie, some random cute guy, and one of my grade's biggest nerds--Kaylie Baxter.
"For this activity, you will all get 5 minutes to talk about you. You don't have to say anything you don't want to say. Everyone will get their own five minutes, do not talk when it isn't your turn." The teacher announced, setting up a five minute timer, and Rylan started talking.
"Well, you all obviously know who I am, Rylan effing Michaels, I was born and raised here and am the most popular girl in school since first grade. I live with my perfect parents and my perfect siblings, we are all just so amazing!" Okay, so I'm paraphrasing but it was basically just that, I was zoned out for the most part.
"Okay, next person." We switched, going in a clockwise circle meaning that, of course, Jayson was next.
"Well,"he dragged the word out long,"if you don't know who I am, then that's a you thing. Anyways, I have like 17 siblings, don't feel like naming all of them and wasting my 5 minutes. You all really know me, and if you don't, again a you thing." He droned on like this for the next 4 minutes talking about how perfect his life was.
"Okay, switch," the teacher lifted voice came. It was the random cute guy, he looked flustered and sat for a moment, thinking of what to say.
"My name is Zion, I am a junior, I have lived in Colorado since I was 6, I am 16 now. I like..." He barely scraped the surface of his life, talking about trivial things, to each their own I guess. The next time we switched, it would be my turn. Okay, think of what to say, 'My name is Mae, full name Maelynn Rose Fourney, my parents met when my mom was 15 and my dad was 17. I have an older brother named Eddie, he graduated last year. I am 16 years old...'
